Location: This position is based in our Austin, TX office and requires onsite presence three days per week.
Position Summary:
The Systems Engineer, Lab Operations will be a member of a team responsible for planning, implementing, securing and supporting multiple build/development/test labs and their associated processes and procedures. Their particular focus will involve the installation, maintenance and support of a secure lab infrastructure to support TrendAI product development and testing, for both on-premise and across multiple cloud platforms. The ideal candidate will leverage AI and to enhance performance, reduce costs, and improve the overall efficiency and reliability of our data centers. The candidate should have a strong understanding of data center infrastructure, including servers, storage, and networking.
Responsibilities:
  • Leverage AI wherever possible to improve and enhance all aspects of the role's responsibilities.
  • Deployment, automation, management, support and maintenance of on-premise and cloud-based test and production systems in AWS, Azure and Google Cloud. Including but not limited to: Linux and Windows server environments, VMware/vCenter, KVM, Proxmox, and Nutanix environments, Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), Authentication mechanisms such as Active Directory, SSSD, samba, winbind, etc.
  • Monitor the infrastructure for compliance, vulnerabilities, and breaches, and address any security issues identified.
  • Maintain patching of all lab resources and proactively work with engineering team to ensure their tools are kept in compliance.
  • Strong bash and python scripting.
  • Knowledge of automation tools and frameworks (e.g., Salt, Ansible, etc.).
  • Deploy and support various lab services such as DNS, DHCP, NFS, SMB, syslog, PXE boot environment, HTTP(S), FTP, TFTP, etc.
  • Work with engineering to provide test applications to enable product feature development and testing.
  • Assist in the development of standards and best practices for the infrastructure in general, and security in particular.
  • Help inform the development team implement and maintain best practices on their development and build systems.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date documentation.
  • Identify manual processes that can be automated and provide scalable and maintainable solutions.
  • Evaluation of new technologies, alternatives, and vendor products.
  • Work closely with R&D Security Team and Information Security Team to ensure all security policies are followed and any identified issues are addressed promptly.
  • Provide professional, courteous and prompt response to the needs of the engineering organization.
  • Provide hands-on support and troubleshooting required to bring rapid solutions to problems involving complex and potentially unfamiliar configurations.
  • Candidate must be able to work in a self-directed role supporting multiple teams.
  • Candidate must be capable of working in a data center environment, and be capable of installing equipment in racks, wiring server connections, etc.
  • Candidate must be available for on-call rotation for after hours and weekend support for critical cases.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum 1 year utilizing AI for operations functions.
  • Expert in Linux server administration.
  • Expert in Windows Server administration.
  • Expert in scripting with Bash and Python.
  • Strong familiarity with networking concepts.
  • Strong familiarity with various hypervisors (VMware/KVM/etc.) and their administration.
  • Over five years of experience in provisioning, operations, and management of on-premise and cloud environments.
  • Clear written and verbal communication.
