Overview
This position in the LG&E Gas Engineering Group, independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgment in identifying and implementing enhancements, adaptations, and modifications to existing and/or new equipment and systems.

Responsibilities
  • Gas Project Engineering/Capital Project Design & Construction:
    • Perform project design engineering and project management support; inclusive of coordinating the design of the gas facilities via internal or external engineering resources, providing engineering support necessary to support field activities during the construction, and taking the lead in resolving all technical engineering issues that arise during construction.
    • Responsibilities include bid specification preparation, contractor selection, material procurement, field construction support, system operation procedure preparation and implementation, and leading coordination meetings with contractor personnel, operational work groups, engineers, managers, and/or directors.
  • Supporting regulatory, financial, and operational initiatives associated with the Gas business:
    • Estimating and projecting annual and monthly project expenses, tracking project costs and ensuring the accuracy of monthly cost reports, and providing information necessary to support the preparation of budget variance reports.
  • Gas Operational Support:
    • Respond to requests for engineering support from Gas Operations.
    • Utilize software gas system hydraulic model to analyze pipeline/bypass sizing, line-pack management, lost gas calculations, blow-down simulations (e.g., excavation damage), etc.
    • Serve in engineer on call rotation and support emergency response activities.
  • Engineering Standards, Policies, Procedures, and Work Standards Development:
    • Develop uniform gas engineering and operating policies, procedures and standards that ensure consistency between operating companies and compliance with regulatory requirements.
    • Create, revise, and review existing engineering/construction standards and work procedures to ensure compliance with regulations, manufacturer guidance, and operational practices.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
Engineer I
  • ABET Accredited Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology

Engineer II
  • ABET Accredited Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology
  • 2+ years in engineering. Utility system operator experience will be counted as engineering experience for this position.

Engineer III
  • ABET Accredited Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology
  • 5+ years of engineering experience, or a master's degree in engineering plus 3 years of engineering experience, or a PhD in Engineering plus 2 years of engineering experience. Utility system operator experience will be counted as engineering experience for this position.

Principal Engineer
  • ABET Accredited Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology
  • 10+ years of engineering experience, or a master's degree in engineering plus 8 years of engineering experience, or a PhD in Engineering plus 7 years of engineering experience. Utility system operator experience will be counted as engineering experience for this position.
  • Ability to analyze and solve engineering problems from a business perspective.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to analyze and solve engineering problems from a business perspective.
  • Ability to use formal engineering training in practical application to assignments.

Work Conditions
Equally balanced between an office environment and field work. The field work requires frequent walking and climbing
