This role is part of Enterprise Technology (ET), where we're developing the digital infrastructure needed to build the road to space, with an emphasis on digital capabilities required to advance Blue Origin's mission. Enterprise Technology is the center of excellence for digital technology at Blue Origin, providing oversight and governance to align technology and business strategies.
We are seeking an experienced Backend Software Engineer III to design and develop robust API infrastructure and platform services for the Operations Technology Platform team. This role is instrumental to our platform engineering mission, where your work will enable full-stack engineering teams and software teams across Blue Origin to build scalable systems and applications. Join us as we advance our API Gateway and establish enterprise connectivity standards across supply chain and operations!

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Design and develop API infrastructure and backend services that power our platform ecosystem
  • Lead development of scalable microservices and backend systems that support organizational growth
  • Write high-quality, efficient, and maintainable code in languages such as Java, Python, Go, and C++
  • Architect and implement resilient backend services with robust API design patterns, versioning strategies, and documentation
  • Implement monitoring and observability practices to maintain system uptime and reliability
  • Lead technical design reviews for backend systems, building repeatable processes and standards
  • Support continuous improvement of platform infrastructure and deployment pipelines
  • Provide mentorship to junior developers and contribute to team knowledge sharing
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver platform solutions that enable organizational success
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • 5-7 years of experience designing and deploying software systems in production environments
  • Demonstrated background in architecting modern backend systems and microservices
  • Strong proficiency in backend languages such as Java, Python, or Go
  • Solid understanding of database design, caching strategies, and data persistence patterns
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and containerization technologies
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience designing and implementing scalable API infrastructure
  • Deep expertise in microservices architecture and design patterns
  • Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs at scale
  • Proficiency with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Track record of leading technical initiatives or mentoring junior developers
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
  • Experience with distributed systems and system reliability
  • Experience implementing machine learning models or AI solutions in backend systems
  • Proficiency with ML frameworks and libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow)
  • Understanding of large language models (LLMs) and how to integrate generative AI into platform services
  • Experience optimizing backend systems for AI/ML workloads
Compensation Range for:
WA applicants is $164,652.00 - $230,512.80
