Food World Plus is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Retail Grocery Accountant to support our finance team and manage full-cycle accounting operations within a grocery retail environment.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in retail grocery accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory accounting, vendor reconciliation, sales reconciliation, cost tracking, and financial reporting. The candidate should understand grocery operations, including purchasing, receiving, inventory movement, shrink, margins, and supplier transactions.

This role requires a highly organized individual who can work closely with store operations, buyers, vendors, and management to ensure accurate financial records and timely reporting.


Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle accounting functions including AP, AR, general ledger, and reconciliations.

  • Process vendor invoices, purchase invoices, and supplier payments.

  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve invoice discrepancies.

  • Perform daily sales and POS reconciliation.

  • Manage inventory accounting, including:

    • Inventory counts

    • Inventory adjustments

    • Shrink and wastage tracking

    • Cost of goods sold (COGS)

    • Gross margin analysis

  • Review purchase orders, receiving documents, and supplier invoices.

  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.

  • Prepare financial reports related to sales, expenses, inventory, and profitability.

  • Maintain accurate accounting records and support audits.

  • Work closely with store operations, buyers, receiving, and management teams.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a grocery store, supermarket, food retail, or retail environment.

  • Strong knowledge of full-cycle accounting.

  • Experience with:

    • Accounts payable

    • Vendor reconciliation

    • Inventory accounting

    • Sales reconciliation

    • Retail margins and COGS

  • Knowledge of Canadian accounting practices and GST/HST.

  • Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, ERP, or retail accounting systems.

  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, reporting).

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Experience

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in:
