What are Manager Inventory Accountants?

Manager Inventory Accountants are professionals responsible for overseeing the accounting and financial management of a company's inventory. They ensure that inventory records are accurate, track inventory costs, manage audits, and develop procedures to minimize discrepancies or losses. In addition, they supervise teams, collaborate with other departments, and provide financial reports to help guide business decisions. Their role is crucial for maintaining accurate financial statements and supporting efficient supply chain operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Manager Inventory Accountant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Manager Inventory Accountant, you need strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of inventory accounting principles, and a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. Experience with ERP systems like SAP or Oracle, advanced Excel skills, and relevant certifications such as CPA or CMA are often required. Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and effective communication help ensure accurate record-keeping and collaboration across departments. These competencies are crucial for maintaining inventory integrity, supporting financial decision-making, and ensuring regulatory compliance.

What are some common challenges faced by a Manager Inventory Accountant, and how can they be addressed?

A Manager Inventory Accountant often faces challenges such as ensuring the accuracy of inventory records, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and managing complex inventory valuation methods. Position Overview

GreenChem Industries is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Inventory Control Specialist to support inventory accuracy, financial reporting, and operational efficiency across multiple third-party warehouse (3PL) locations.

This entry-level role is ideal for someone with a strong interest in accounting and data analysis who wants to gain hands-on experience in inventory valuation, reconciliation, and supply chain operations. The position will work cross-functionally with accounting, procurement, logistics, and customer service teams to ensure inventory records are accurate, discrepancies are resolved, and processes are continuously improved.

This role provides an excellent opportunity for growth within both accounting and supply chain functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reconcile third-party warehouse (3PL) inventory reports to ERP system quantities and investigate discrepancies
  • Prepare and assist with monthly inventory valuation reports and variance analysis
  • Support monthly and year-end close processes, including journal entries related to inventory, reserves, and obsolescence
  • Monitor inventory transactions and identify issues related to receiving, shipping, or data entry
  • Assist with standard costing procedures and analyze cost variances on item receipts
  • Track and report on damaged, aged, and non-sellable inventory
  • Coordinate monthly inventory counts with warehouses and assist with audit requests
  • Work closely with Accounts Payable to resolve invoice discrepancies related to inventory and storage costs
  • Partner with supply chain teams to support inventory planning, replenishment, and order fulfillment
  • Maintain accurate inventory records across multiple warehouse locations
  • Assist in developing and improving inventory control processes and procedures
  • Support compliance with safety regulations and Responsible Distribution (RD) standards
  • Help resolve mis-shipments, receiving errors, and inventory discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Generate reports and provide insights on inventory performance and key metrics
  • Assist with ad-hoc projects and reporting as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Supply Chain, or related field (required)
  • Internship or coursework in accounting, inventory, or data analysis preferred but not required
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills with attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP systems (NetSuite preferred) is a plus
  • Ability to investigate discrepancies and solve problems using data
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Effective communication and ability to work cross-functionally
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Skills

  • Interest in supply chain operations and inventory management
  • Familiarity with inventory processes such as cycle counts, receiving, and stock tracking (a plus)
