Job description

JOB TITLE: CNC Machinist

DEPARTMENT: Interior 

REPORTS TO: Interior Team Leader 


HOURS: Mon-Friday

7-8am - 5:30-7:00pm

(Hours are based on production)


JOB SUMMARY:

The CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating computer-controlled machinery to produce custom wood components, including doors, jambs, cutouts, and display pieces. This role is vital to ensuring that each product meets precise design specifications and quality standards. The ideal candidate brings attention to detail, comfort with digital interfaces, and the flexibility to assist across multiple production areas as needed.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Set up, Program, and operate CNC equipment to manufacture wood components according to job specifications, CAD drawings, and work orders.

• Interpret and follow technical documents such as production picks, templates, engineered prints, and hardware information.

• Verify job specifications and required dimensions before machining.

• Perform machine setup, calibrations, tool changes, and bit replacements to maintain machining accuracy.

• Conduct quality checks throughout the production process and record inspection data accurately.

• Perform routine maintenance on CNC machinery and troubleshoot machine issues as needed.

• Follow all safety guidelines and maintain a clean, organized workstation.


SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist in other production areas as needed.

• Learn and assist with the use of additional advanced woodworking equipment for shaping, modifying, or finishing wood components.

• Support custom cutting and machining of doors or panels to meet customer requirements.

• Partner with production support staff to ensure accurate documentation and efficient flow of job materials.

• Assist with unloading, organizing, and storing materials to support shop efficiency.


NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Ability to read and understand paperwork, spec sheets, templates, CAD drawings, work orders, and technical documentation.

• Experience with AlphaCAM or other CNC programming software.

• Ability to read and use a tape measure and understand basic measurements and calculations.

• Basic computer proficiency and ability to work with CNC machine interface systems.

• Strong attention to detail and awareness of quality requirements.

• Ability to manage priorities, work at a steady pace, and perform multiple tasks as needed.

• Ability to understand CNC equipment operation, setup, calibration, and routine maintenance.

• Ability to work safely and maintain an organized production area.

• Ability to work cooperatively with production and support staff.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Minimum of one (1) year of experience operating CNC machinery, preferably in woodworking or manufacturing.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Background in wood products manufacturing or similar trade environments.

• Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles or continuous improvement practices.

• Ability to draw and create in both AutoCad and Fusion.




DAILY WORK EXPECTATIONS:

Meet quality expectations and complete assigned production. Work at a steady pace, manage multiple priorities, assist other departments as needed, perform quality checks, maintain accurate documentation, and complete daily cleanup.


WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS:

Heated/non-air-conditioned production shop with concrete floors.


REQUIRED WORK HOURS:

Scheduled work hours are based on the seasonality and production needs of Bayer Built Woodworks.
