Commercial Insurance Rater / Underwriting Assistant
Location: Medford, NJ (100% On-site)
Position Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire
Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM; Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM (No weekends)
Target Compensation: ~$40,000 Base Salary
Position Overview
The Commercial Rater / Underwriting Assistant provides analytical and data-entry support to the production and account management teams. This role extracts underwriting information from prospect submissions, inputs data into various carrier rating portals, and delivers structured quote comparisons to sales producers. This entry-level role serves as an accelerated career springboard into a licensed Customer Service Representative or Account Manager career path.
Key Responsibilities
  • Data Gathering & Entry: Review prospect applications, building property specifications (square footage, construction class, updates), and operational details to prepare quote submissions.
  • Carrier Portal Rating: Navigate multiple proprietary carrier online rating engines (e.g., Travelers, Selective, Chubb) to generate accurate commercial quotes.
  • Proposal Packaging: Organize and package return quotes into comparison summaries for sales producers to present to commercial prospects.
  • Workflow Volume: Maintain consistent daily output (averaging 5-7+ rated quotes per day) while maintaining data integrity.
  • Team Collaboration: Communicate with producers and CSRs regarding missing underwriting data, appetite fit, or carrier guideline requirements.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education / Background: Open to recent college graduates seeking an entry point into financial services, or entry-level administrative professionals with strong computer literacy and attention to detail.
  • Technical Aptitude: Comfort learning multiple proprietary software platforms, carrier portals, and internal agency tools quickly.
  • Licensing: No license required to start. Employer will sponsor and pay for study courses for employees seeking to obtain their Property & Casualty (P&C) license on their own time.
  • Core Competencies: High reliability, analytical retention, detail orientation, and dependable on-site attendance.
  • Commute: Located within a manageable 30-40 minute commute to the Medford, NJ office.
