Summary:
The purpose of the Supervisor in Training position is to learn our business from the ground up. We will train the right person, no scrap metal experience necessary, however the ideal candidate must possess the following work qualifications highlighted below. The purpose of this position is to supervise, manage, guide and influence day-to-day operational activities for the Metalico Pittsburgh location. This position will be responsible for planning and communicating their business vision, growth and diversification to their team and drive the execution of an effective operations program. In addition, recommend ways to maximize profits, meet quality standards, set production goals and build teamwork.

Essential Job Functions:
Typical duties/responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Support operations management for all ferrous the non-ferrous units with the objective of maintaining a safe, organized, and tidy facility.
  • Recommend ways to maximize profits, meet quality standards, set production goals, and build teamwork.
  • This position will report to the Yard Manager.
  • Evaluate the safety/environmental needs and make recommendations to the Yard Manager.
  • Review and make recommendations to the Yard Manager for the quality produced of our finished products.
  • Ensure adherence to customer specifications and make recommendations to the Yard Manager on ways to expand margins.
  • Assist Yard Manager with employee training regarding operating and maintaining equipment.
  • Become familiar with all processing operations and costs. Become knowledgeable enough to determine how material is to be processed through Metalico’s operating facilities and make recommendations to the Yard Manager as needed.
  • Review/develop Standard Operating Procedures for the operations and make recommendations to the Yard Manager as needed.
  • Conduct himself/herself with professionalism and be responsive to all internal and external customers.
  • Handle all disputes in a timely and effective manner. Effectiveness is defined as protection of both Metalico and the interests of the disputed party.
  • Manage the employees’ day-to-day duties. Set up daily assignments for all yard/plant staff.
  • Effective use of all company assets.
  • Ensure that all customers’ needs are met on a continuing basis.
  • Follow and perform duties in accordance with the Metalico Code of Business Conduct.
  • Attend relevant training/information sessions with the intent of becoming more knowledgeable.
  • Responsible for planning and requesting capital needs.
  • Efficient use of available space for inventory management.
  • Responsible for identifying and developing future leaders of our organization.
  • Follow all Metalico procedures regarding his/her activities.
  • This position is to perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • High School Diploma / GED.
  • 2-year minimum operational management training experience, preferred.
  • Heavy equipment skills a plus (forklift, skid steer, loaders, material handlers).
  • Willingness to learn in a fast paced, inclement weather, dirty work environment.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with customers
  • Must be able to lift minimum of 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to work full week & half day Saturdays.

Work Hours:
Monday through Friday, 40+ hour work week; overtime may be required after hours and on weekends.
