Job description

Summary

The Director of Client Accounting Services oversees the firm’s bookkeeping operations and leads the CAS team. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality financial reporting, managing client relationships, and ensuring team members are supported, trained, and aligned with firm goals. The Director plays a key role in process improvement, internal collaboration, and client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the delivery of client accounting services, including reconciliations, financial reporting, payroll, and ongoing maintenance
  • Lead and manage the CAS team, including performance feedback, training, and staff development
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
  • Maintain strong client relationships and act as the point of contact for escalated bookkeeping matters
  • Identify growth opportunities to add clients or other billable work
  • Develop and refine internal processes to improve workflow efficiency and quality control
  • Collaborate with tax and admin teams to ensure coordinated client service
  • Review onboarding of new clients and confirm proper setup of workflows and expectations
  • Support the implementation of new software tools and ensure best practices are followed
  • Promote the firm’s values and create a positive, professional team culture
  • Lead business development initiatives within the CAS department, identifying opportunities to expand client services and strengthen existing relationships

Software Knowledge & Expectations

  • Understanding of QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop, including cleanup and troubleshooting

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (required)
  • CPA or similar credential a plus, but not required.
  • 7+ years of bookkeeping/accounting experience, with at least 3 in a supervisory role
  • Strong knowledge of small business accounting, payroll, and financial reporting
  • Ability to manage a team and provide guidance on best practices
  • Excellent communication and client service skills
  • Process-oriented with a focus on accuracy, timeliness, and efficiency
