Position Summary:
Direct supervision and responsibility for the accounting and banking functions of the UNM Health Systems. Responsible for the integrity and timeliness of the financial statements. Ensures adherence to Hospital and Departmental Policies and procedures. No patient care assignment.

Detailed responsibilities:

  • SUPERVISION - Supervise staff accountants, ensuring monthly closings are completed accurately and timely and that all balance sheet accounts are reconciled
  • SUPERVISION - Supervise the cash accounting clerk, ensuring that all deposits are made timely and accurately and that cash is properly controlled and safeguarded
  • ADMINISTRATION - Ensures that financial statements are in accordance with appropriate guidelines
  • BILLING - Ensure the timely completion of special and referral billings with appropriate follow-up
  • COORDINATION - Work with IT department to ensure that all system issues are dealt with in a timely and efficient manner
  • AUDIT - Work with external auditors, providing timely and accurate information and assistanceREPORTS - Respond to inquiries from hospital management in an accurate and timely manner
  • FINANCE - Identify accounting system enhancement opportunities and recommend appropriate changes
  • COMMUNICATION - Provide staff with appropriate information about UNMH's vision, direction, policies, and administrative updates from Management Coffee, Management Council, Quality Council, and other management meetings
  • TRAINING - Ensure that staff complete required training hours annually
  • SUPERVISION - Perform all supervisory functions including annual evaluations, progress reports, disciplinary counseling, review of timecards of employees and all hiring functions of new staff, including interviewing, selecting, training, and orienting
  • FINANCE - Assist in the implementation and monitoring of the Finance Department CQI activities
  • STAFF - Promote and encourage participation by staff
