The Impact You Will Have in This Role
As a Lead Systems Engineer - Messaging Platforms, you will play a key role in modernizing and evolving our enterprise messaging ecosystem. You will lead the design and operation of secure, resilient, and highly available IBM MQ platforms, driving adoption of cloud-native, containerized, and automated architectures across hybrid environments.
In this role, you will act as a technical leader and trusted partner to application teams, cloud platform engineers, and operations stakeholders-ensuring messaging services are scalable, observable, and aligned with critical business needs.
Your Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design, deployment, and operation of IBM MQ and App Connect Enterprise (ACE) across AWS cloud and OpenShift-based container platforms
  • Drive platform modernization through containerization, automation, and cloud-native patterns
  • Install, configure, and manage IBM MQ queue managers supporting high availability and disaster recovery architectures
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and MQ platform deployments using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Chef, and Ansible
  • Integrate MQ build, deployment, and configuration workflows into CI/CD pipelines
  • Monitor, tune, and optimize messaging performance using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and MeshIQ (APM6)
  • Troubleshoot complex messaging, connectivity, and performance issues across hybrid and cloud environments
  • Implement and manage IBM MQ security controls, including TLS/SSL, CHLAUTH, and LDAP integration
  • Partner closely with application, platform, and operations teams to deliver reliable and scalable messaging solutions
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, standards, and runbooks, and support knowledge transition to operations teams

Qualifications
  • 6+ years of experience supporting enterprise messaging or middleware platforms, with strong depth in IBM MQ
  • Experience supporting mission-critical production systems in large-scale or regulated environments
  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent practical experience

Talent Needed for Success
Messaging & Platform Expertise
  • 6+ years of hands-on IBM MQ administration experience in enterprise environments
  • Strong expertise in queue managers, channels, clustering, and high availability / disaster recovery architectures
  • Experience supporting mission-critical messaging platforms in production environments

Cloud, Containers & Automation
  • Experience operating containerized messaging platforms in OpenShift and/or Kubernetes
  • Proven experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation tools such as Chef, Ansible or Terraform.
  • Experience deploying or operating MQ platforms in cloud or hybrid environments (AWS preferred)

Systems, Security & Reliability
  • Solid background in Linux/Unix operating systems
  • Experience implementing IBM MQ security controls, including TLS/SSL, CHLAUTH, and LDAP integration
  • Working knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) concepts such as observability, SLAs, and SLOs
