Key responsibilities

  • Provide post-operative care to patients recovering from cardiac surgeries and complex cardiovascular conditions in the ICU.

  • Manage and monitor patients with diagnoses such as CABG, dissections, cardiogenic shock, transplants, valve replacements, and post-op ventricular assist device.

  • Perform device management including Code AORTA, ECMO, Impella, balloon pump, vasopressor management and titration, and rapid transfusion.

Open Heart Recovery/Cardiovascular ICU Nurse - LouisvilleJob Summary:

Our client is currently seeking dedicated and skilled Registered Nurses to join the Open Heart Recovery/Cardiovascular ICU team in Louisville. This critical care unit specializes in post-operative care for patients undergoing cardiac surgeries and managing complex cardiovascular conditions. The ideal candidates will provide high-quality nursing care, demonstrating proficiency in handling various critical care scenarios and working closely with a multidisciplinary team.

Required Qualifications:
  • Licensed or eligible for license in Kentucky
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required for some units
  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
Reporting Structure:

New hire gt; Charge Nurse gt; Shift Coordinator gt; Manager gt; Director

Work Schedule:
  • Shifts: 7p-7a or 7a-7p
  • Clinician/patient ratio: 1:1, 1:2, 2:1
Educational, Certification, and/or Licensure Requirements:
  • BLS, ACLS, and ADN or BSN
Average Number of Patients Cared for Daily:

1-2 per nurse or a total of 15-17 patients per day

Types of Diagnoses and Patients Cared for:
  • CABG/Open Heart Recovery
  • Dissections
  • Cardiogenic Shock
  • Transplants
  • Valve Replacements
  • Post-op Ventricular Assist Device
  • Emergent Tamponade
  • Device management: Referral center for Code AORTA, ECMO, Impella, Balloon pump, Vasopressor management/titration, amp; Rapid Transfusion
Interview Process:

Onsite interview with the Manager followed by a job offer. There is an option to shadow on the same day. The orientation period varies from 4-6 months, dependent on experience, and up to 1 year for Transplant or high-risk procedures.
