POSITION TITLE: Field Service Technician, Mechanical and Controls

As a Field Service Technician, you will be responsible for total equipment lifecycle management services that optimize the performance of OEM equipment. FST’s travel to customer sites to perform planned services, troubleshoot issues, make repairs, recommend spare parts, and provide upgrades/modernization. You will be responsible for services that include installation, start-up/commissioning, preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, audits, and training.

This position is a focal point for service and support related mechanical and controls issues and will be responsible for providing technical support and expertise for the entire Key Technology product line. This position requires a strong blend of problem-solving skills, technical knowledge and customer service abilities to address and resolve complex technical issues to ensure that any high-profile technical issues are identified and corrected in a timely manner. Technicians travel to customer sites to perform planned services, troubleshoot issues, make repairs, recommend spare parts, and provide upgrades/modernization. You will be responsible for services that include installation, start-up/commissioning, preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, audits, and training. This role will require understanding of PLC’s, VFDs, motion controls and other related components. In this position, you will: 

  • Conduct field service calls at customer sites to provide installation, commissioning, emergency repair, preventive maintenance, audits, retrofits, and training services
  • Conduct site visit meetings with customers to include explanation of job scope and work completed and conduct training with customers personnel to ensure understanding of the sequence of operations, proper functionality, and general maintenance of equipment
  • Achieve service delivery goals including response time, first time fix and customer satisfaction rates
  • Communicate effectively with field service management and internal service support team to efficiently resolve customer issues
  • Ensure paperwork, timesheets, CRM entries, expenses and other paperwork functions are completed on time and to a high quality.
  • Review customer file prior to departure for service call.
  • Troubleshoot equipment through listening to, observing mechanical/electrical devices in operation, reviewing machine data, etc., to locate causes of issues and concerns.
  • Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove and replace defective parts.
  • Repairs or replaces defective parts.
  • Provides internal and external customers with technical support in response to inquiries via phone and email.
  • Assists with customer escalations by providing the highest level of technical support both internally and externally as necessary.

We require the following:  

  • AA Degree or equivalent certificate from a college or technical school
  • Technical ability to read and interpret drawings.
  • Two to five years or more experience in the packaging and/or automation industry in field service, engineering or manufacturing function.
  • Bilingual (Spanish and English) is a benefit
  • Technical writing experience a plus
  • Must have a valid driver's license. Will have a major credit card or be able to obtain a company-sponsored card.  There are opportunities to travel outside the US, so an up-to-date US Passport is required
  • Travel requirements:  This position is a road-warrior.  travel is 80%, including overnight and weekends.

The employee is frequently required to grasp, handle, and feel objects, control and manage tools, and use hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel and crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but at times loud. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
