Flute Instructor

Primary Purpose

The Flute Instructoris responsible forplanning and delivering engaging, age-appropriate flute instruction for elementary-aged students. The instructor will develop foundational musicianship, proper flute technique, and early performance skills while fostering creativity, confidence, discipline, and a lifelong appreciation for music. Instruction should support individual student growth in a positive, inclusive, and developmentallyappropriate learningenvironment aligned with the mission and values of the Fine Arts Association.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop and implement structured, developmentallyappropriate lessonplans for elementary-aged flute students.

• Teach foundational flute techniques, including posture, breath support, embouchure formation, tone production, finger placement, articulation, and basic intonation.

• Introduce music reading skills, rhythm development, and fundamental music theory concepts appropriate for elementary learners.

• Select and adapt repertoire suitable for beginner and early intermediate flute students.

• Provide step-by-step instruction that supports skill acquisition and reinforces healthy playing habits.

• Foster a positive, encouraging learning environment that builds confidence, discipline, and enjoyment of music-making.

• Provide individualized instruction, feedback, and support to meet the needs of beginning musicians.

• Demonstrate proper instrument care, maintenance, and assembly/disassembly techniques.

• Prepare lesson plans, organize instructional materials, andmaintainan effective and structured teaching environment.

• Supervise students during lessons, rehearsals, performances, recitals, workshops, and events as applicable.

• Maintain awareness of student safety and proper use of instruments and classroom materials.

• Maintain attendance records, lesson documentation, and student progress reports as required by the Fine Arts Association.

• Assistwith preparation and participation in student performances, recitals, and community events.

• Communicate effectively with students and familiesregardingprogress, practice expectations, and scheduling.

• Participate in staff meetings,trainings, and professional development opportunities as requested.

• Support the mission, values, policies, and procedures of the Fine Arts Association.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Music, Flute Performance, Music Education, or a closely related field preferred.

• Demonstratedproficiencyin flute performance and pedagogy.

• Experienceteachingelementary-aged studentsstronglypreferred.

• Strong understanding of beginning flutetechniqueand early music education principles.

• Ability to teachmusicreading and foundational theory to young learners.

• Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills.

• Ability to create engaging, age-appropriate, and structured learning experiences.

• Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and student-centered learning environment.

• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and families.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, and move for extended periods during instruction and events.

• Ability todemonstrateflute technique and proper posture and embouchure.

• Ability to lift, carry, and organize instructional materials and instruments (up to approximately 25 pounds).

• Manual dexteritysufficienttodemonstrateflute fingerings and techniques accurately.

• Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to read music, assess student performance, andmonitorsafety.

• Ability to engage in physical activity consistent with elementary-aged instructional methods.

• Work is performed inclassroom,studio,rehearsal, and performance environments.

• Exposure to moderate noise levels associated with group instruction.

Terms of Employment

• Part-time position.

• Schedule will vary based on student enrollment, instructional demand, and program needs.

• Instructionmay occur during daytime, evening, and/or weekend hours.

• Instructoris responsible foractively developing,maintaining, and managing their own student base, including acquisition and retention of private flute clients, consistent with the independent studio model of the Fine Arts Association.

• Employment is contingent upon successful background check and verification of credentials.
