Director of Risk Management
 
Position Type: Full-time / Onsite
Location: Scenic Regional Area, New Mexico (In-Person Required)

Reports To: Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)

 
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Risk Management for a contingent leadership role at a prominent regional healthcare facility. This senior position plays a vital role in coordinating multiple facets of the overall risk management, avoidance, and mitigation processes.
The ideal candidate will collaborate with all levels of leadership, providers, front-end staff, and external stakeholders to implement sustainable corrective actions. Additionally, this role serves a dual function as the facility’s Compliance and Ethics Officer.

This role is based at a comprehensive 199-bed acute care teaching hospital that serves as a vital healthcare hub for its regional community. Part of a premier, nationwide diversified healthcare delivery network, the facility is dedicated to clinical excellence across acute care, rehabilitation, and behavioral health platforms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Risk Mitigation & Programs: Oversee the comprehensive risk management program for both the main hospital campus and its affiliated regional clinics.
  • Litigation Management: Manage the evolving needs of potential and active litigation cases, including overseeing investigations, conducting interviews, coordinating depositions, and gathering legal hold records as directed by legal counsel.
  • Clinical Consultation: Provide expert clinical consultation regarding informed consent, professional liability exposure, documentation standards, and disclosure practices.
  • Policy Oversight: Oversee the facility’s insurance policies, managing professional liability, general liability, and property claims activities.
  • Staff Training: Develop and deliver training programs for hospital leadership, medical providers, and general staff regarding incident reporting and risk management protocols.
  • Compliance: Actively serve as the Compliance and Ethics Officer to ensure all facility actions align with regulatory and corporate ethical frameworks.

 
Role Requirements
Must-Haves:
  • Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) License in the State of New Mexico or an active multi-state compact license.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of professional nursing experience, including at least 3 years in a dedicated Director or Manager-level leadership role.
  • Domain Knowledge: Proven, hands-on experience specifically within acute care Risk Management.
