Job Description

The Bank Risk Office has an exciting opportunity for a Risk Management Manager to join our team. As part of the Second Line of Defense (2LOD), the Bank Risk Office provides independent oversight of risk management activities across the Banking and Cash Solutions business unit, including Ameriprise Bank, FSB. The Risk Management Manager will provide operational and financial risk oversight by leading the development of key risk controls and providing independent oversight and effective challenge of day-to-day risk activities across Banking and Cash Solutions. The Bank Risk Office independently monitors, challenges, and reports on the effectiveness of the First Line of Defense (1LOD) in identifying and managing operational risks in alignment with the Operational Risk Management Committee (ORMC).

Key Responsibilities:

Lead Operational Risk Framework Execution:

Coordinate and oversee implementation of the operational risk framework across Banking and Cash Solutions, ensuring adherence to ORM Center of Excellence (COE) standards and providing independent oversight, effective challenge, and insights into the level and direction of operational risk across the business.

  • Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs): Guide business teams in proactively identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks; enhance risk awareness and strengthen control design and monitoring.

  • Process Reviews: Evaluate business processes to confirm that control structures are appropriately designed and operating effectively to mitigate identified risks.

  • Control Testing: Oversee testing activities to assess the effectiveness of systems, processes, and controls; identify control gaps and provide independent oversight and effective challenge of remediation activities; support compliance with regulatory requirements and enhancement of operational effectiveness.

  • Risk Event Management: Ensure business units consistently log and manage risk events; support root cause analysis and remediation planning; and provide independent oversight and challenge prior to closure of events by the First Line of Defense (1LOD).

  • Change Management: Support change management initiatives as assigned.

Risk Escalation:

Elevate significant operational risks to Bank Risk Office leadership when they present or may present material impacts to company performance, strategy, or reputation, ensuring timely awareness, transparency, and appropriate governance escalation.

Policy & Metric Development:

Enhance and maintain operational risk measurement policies, procedures, and metrics, ensuring alignment with enterprise risk frameworks and applicable regulatory expectations.

Risk Reporting:

Strengthen risk reporting by applying research, industry best practices, and operational knowledge to produce clear, concise, and actionable insights that inform decision-making across senior leadership, risk governance forums, and business partners.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

  • 5 years of relevant operational or financial risk management experience.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time management capabilities.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills; can adapt communication and presentation style to fit various audiences.

  • Influence stakeholders, build partnerships, provide effective challenge, and facilitate alignment across all levels of the organization, while navigating complex, sensitive situations.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of risk management frameworks, including control programs, issue management, change management, and third-party risk oversight.

  • 1-3 years of demonstrated leadership experience (direct or indirect, including coaching or mentoring).

By fostering a culture of face-to-face collaboration, idea sharing, productivity and personal connection, we deliver for our stakeholders - clients, advisors, employees and shareholders. Our employees work in the office at least four (4) days per week, with flexibility to work from home one (1) day per week. Some roles may require additional in-office time or different in-office expectations, and specific requirements will be discussed during the hiring process.

Visa Sponsorship

Applicants must have a valid work authorization that does not now, or in the future, require visa sponsorship for employment in the United States (e.g., H-1B, F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, TN).
