Job description

POSITION: Waste Stream Coordinator

SEASON: Austral Summer (September - April)

LOCATION: Palmer Station, Antarctica

SECTOR/DEPT: Six Mile, LLC Antarctica

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operate SkyTrak telehandler, Toolcat, ATVs, and zodiacs as required

Daily use of pallet jack, banding equipment, power tools, hand tools, shovels, and other tools

Collect station waste and recycling to transport to appropriate staging area

Package all waste properly to meet regulations and/or follow best practices

Load shipping containers with packaged waste to meet regulations and/or follow best practices

Operate incinerator, glass crusher, and baler as needed

Perform fueling duties as necessary

Support other work centers as needed and as time allows (Logistics, FMC, Boathouse, etc.)

Attend all required emergency response team trainings

Maintain clean and orderly workspaces in processing facility and in outdoor work areas

Participate in all required station support duties such as GASH and House Mouse

Track all labor, work orders, and other data accurately

Participate in safety meetings

Use the proper PPE for various tasks (correct gloves, respirator, safety glasses, etc.)

Regular use of cargo straps, banding, pallet jacks, and power tools.

Position requires constant physical activity, including bending, consistently lifting and carrying 50 - 70 lbs, reaching and gripping.

Perform ancillary support to station Spill Team, including on-call duties after hours and possible night shift duties.

Agrees with and adheres to the Standard Operating Procedures and tasking responsibilities of the Waste department.

Able to work in a team unit composed of diverse personalities.

Displays self-motivation in physically challenging and atypical work environment; position is comprised of approximately 70% outdoor tasking

Able to maintain flexibility and positive attitude in a dynamic, fast-paced work setting

Performs duties in support of Operations Division metrics (as provided by supervisor)

Supports the achievement of ASC metrics, whether metrics are directly or indirectly, effected by this position's work activities

Complies with all ASC Environmental Health & Safety, and Quality Assurance, requirements and goals. Provides documentation to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation

Works to achieve ASC goals and contractual commitments

Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace

Perform other duties as required

Reports to Waste Management Specialist

REQUIREMENTS:

Experience living on remote job site

Equipment operating experience

Familiarity with power tools and machinery

Able to stand for up to 12 hours daily

Must be able to lift the safety regulation maximum and perform functions requiring repetitive motion required

Must pass physical qualification assessment

Able to deploy to Antarctica for length of contract

Possible travel to spill school within the US

PREFERRED:

Previous USAP Waste Management experience

Previous deployment to Antarctica

EDUCATION: High school education or GED.

CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR LICENSING REQUIREMENTS: Valid Driver's License and passport valid for six months after end of contract.

EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent

OTHER: US citizenship or permanent residency required.
