Position: Accounting Manager

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer

FLSA Classification: Exempt

Description:

Reporting to the CFO, the Accounting Manager is responsible for the end-to-end accounting close and internal financial reporting for the school. Working closely with the CFO and other members of the finance team, this person will ensure that financials are reported timely, accurately, and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principals (GAAP). This person will be the lead on performing monthly financial analysis and coordinating review meetings with division heads.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the month end close process, to include preparing and processing payroll, revenue, expense, fixed assets, and other journals as needed.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations timely and accurately.
  • Prepare monthly internal financial reporting packages and variance analysis.
  • Prepare for and oversee the annual external audit.
  • Oversee the cash management and cash forecasting function.
  • Assist with preparing financial forecasts on an as needed basis.
  • Assist with the development of an annual budget, working in tandem with the CFO and division heads.
  • Work with a continuous improvement mindset, raising up and assisting with policy, process, and technology changes as the department continues to innovate.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned to meet evolving needs within the department.


Essential Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below represent the required knowledge, skill, and ability.

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Accounting required. CPA preferred
  • 8-10 years’ experience working in an accounting/finance position. Experience with non-profit accounting is a plus.
  • Self-starter who is comfortable working with independent autonomy.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding student, family and financial data in a highly relational work environment.
  • Must be technologically savvy with advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Experience with Blackbaud, Veracross, or google based infrastructure are a plus. Experience or familiarity with making enhancements to an ERP system are a plus.
  • Must be willing to be cross-functionally trained on other roles within the department. We are a small team that needs to be prepared to cover for each other when the needs of life arise.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in person and in writing.
