The Role
We are seeking an Engineering Manager to join our Engineering Department. This leader will drive technical excellence and be responsible for the growth and management of a high-performing software development team focused on delivering features and enhancements for our modern cloud-based payroll, HR, and benefits software. You will play a critical role in scaling our engineering capabilities, mentoring our talent, and ensuring alignment with OnPay's mission of combining superb technology with excellent customer service. This position is based in Atlanta, GA, and requires being in the office at least two (2) days a week.
Supervisory and Leadership Responsibilities:
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains engineering staff to meet technical needs.
  • Oversees the daily workflow, sets clear goals and expectations, and manages the performance of your team.
  • Coaches and develops team members, providing continuous feedback, timely performance evaluations, and developmental opportunities.
  • Provide technical oversight and strategic direction for engineering projects, ensuring high-quality, accurate, on-time, and within-budget output.
  • Develop and implement improved procedures and standards for the department, including establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) and accountabilities for achieving results.
  • Foster an inclusive team environment.

  • Work closely with Product and Engineering leadership to map out new features and enhancements.
  • Provide direction and motivation to the team to ensure the successful execution of engineering responsibilities.
  • Maintain knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in engineering and product development.
  • Frequently collaborate with teammates on best practices and business processes.
  • Ensure policy compliance and involve the People & Culture team regarding employee relations when necessary.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field (strongly preferred).
  • At least 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.

  • Experience with our core technologies (PHP, Go, React, Docker, MySQL, Mongo, and Redis) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with software testing best practices and Agile methodologies.
  • Prior Payroll or HRIS experience is a plus.

Compensation includes a base salary $150k-$195k. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
