Job description

Energy Finance Lead

Do you have the ability to provide financial oversight to our Energy Department? AgState is currently hiring a full-time Energy Finance Lead team member to provide financial insight and analytical expertise, working with our operations and leadership team to improve decision-making, strengthen controls and drive accountability across our energy business.

Under the direction of the Senior Manager of Accounting, this role will serve as the financial resource and business partner, providing guidance on accounting impacts and business initiatives, while maintaining confidentiality and high regard to customer service.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepare, analyze, and review monthly financial statements, operational summaries, variance analyses, and manage reports related to energy operations.
  • Identity and implement opportunities for process improvements, automation, workflow efficiencies and enhance reporting within accounting and operational systems.
  • Translate financial results into clear business drivers and make recommendations to all leadership.
  • Own month end and year end close, financial statements, reconciliations and inventory accounting for the energy division.
  • Mentor and develop energy accounting staff while driving process improvements and automation.
  • Analyze margins, pricing, freight, and profitability trends.
  • Maintain strong internal controls, ensuring GAAP compliance, and coordinating audit support.
  • Oversee billing, pricing adjustments, Accounts Receivables, and credit exposure for energy customers.
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, data modeling, lookups).
  • Other duties as assigned.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors in accounting, Finance, or related field โ€“ or 5+ years of accounting/financial management experience.
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, financial statements, accruals, reconciliations and internal controls.
  • ERP experience a plus.
  • CPA beneficial but not required.
  • Prior supervisory experience, inventory/cost accounting background, and knowledge of fuel, propane, or ag industry.
  • Valid Driver's license and the ability to travel to other locations as needed.
