Job description

We are looking for the right people — people who want to innovate, achieve, grow and lead. We attract and retain the best talent by investing in our employees and empowering them to develop themselves and their careers. Experience the challenges, rewards and opportunity of working for one of the world’s largest providers of products and services to the global energy industry.

About Completion Tools

Completion Tools develops reliable and innovative well completion systems for any environment. From intelligent completions and packers to flow control devices, we help customers achieve optimal production, reservoir management, and well integrity.

About the Role

The Senior R&D Electrical Engineer designs, develops, and validates analog, digital, and embedded electronic systems supporting Halliburton's Completion Tools technologies. Working with minimal supervision, this role develops hardware and firmware solutions for downhole, subsea, and surface interface systems that operate in demanding environments.

The position serves as a technical lead on product development projects, leading the design of embedded hardware and firmware solutions from concept through qualification and commercialization. The successful candidate applies expertise in analog, digital, and power electronics, embedded systems, PCB design, and system validation to deliver reliable technologies for high-temperature downhole applications while contributing to Halliburton's intellectual property portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop analog, digital, power electronic, and embedded hardware systems for high-reliability downhole applications.
  • Develop electrical schematics, PCB layouts, component specifications, and manufacturing documentation using Altium Designer or comparable PCB design tools.
  • Design and develop bare-metal embedded firmware in Embedded C for microcontroller-based systems supporting downhole tools and surface interface equipment.
  • Perform electrical analysis, circuit simulation, laboratory testing, and system validation to verify product performance and reliability.
  • Establish system-level testing requirements and execute qualification testing in accordance with engineering standards and HSE requirements.
  • Lead design reviews, identify technical risks, and support Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and other reliability assessments.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, software, project management, manufacturing, assembly, and test engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Support prototype builds, manufacturing transfer, product qualification, and commercialization activities.
  • Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance on electrical engineering methods, embedded systems, and design best practices.
  • Lead electrical design activities throughout the product development lifecycle, including concept development, design reviews, prototype evaluation, qualification testing, and manufacturing transfer.
  • Support the development of high-temperature electronic systems designed to operate in demanding downhole environments.
  • Contribute to Halliburton's innovation strategy through invention disclosures, patent development, and new technology concepts.
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in electrical engineering, embedded electronics, firmware development, or product development.
  • Experience designing analog, digital, and power electronic systems for industrial, embedded, or high-reliability applications.
  • Experience developing embedded firmware using Embedded C on microcontroller-based platforms.
  • Experience designing multilayer PCBs using Altium Designer or equivalent PCB CAD software.
  • Experience with electrical simulation, laboratory testing, and product validation.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills within multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Preferred

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience developing high-temperature downhole electronics.
  • Experience with sensors, data acquisition systems, or industrial communication interfaces.
  • Knowledge of reliability engineering, FMEA, Design for Manufacturing (DFM), and system validation.
  • Record of patents, technical publications, or innovation contributions.

Candidates with qualifications exceeding the minimum requirements may be considered for the Principal R&D Electrical Engineer role based on experience, additional qualifications, and business needs.
