Position Summary
We are seeking a mid-level Electrical Engineer with 3-5 years of experience to join our engineering team supporting the design, development, documentation, and manufacturing of UL 891 low-voltage switchboards.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with electrical power distribution equipment, switchboard/switchgear design, electrical calculations, component selection, and engineering documentation. This position will work closely with manufacturing, purchasing, project management, and quality teams to ensure products meet customer requirements and applicable UL and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design and engineer low-voltage switchboards and switchgear assemblies in accordance with customer specifications and applicable standards.
  • Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams, bills of materials (BOMs), and panel layouts.
  • Select appropriate electrical components including circuit breakers, busbars, CTs, PTs, metering equipment, relays, control components, and other switchgear devices.
  • Perform electrical calculations related to load, short-circuit current, busbar sizing, conductor sizing, voltage drop, and equipment ratings.
  • Apply requirements of UL 891 and applicable NEC/NFPA standards to engineering designs.
  • Review customer specifications, drawings, and submittals and identify technical requirements and exceptions.
  • Prepare and review manufacturing drawings and engineering documentation.
  • Work with the production team to resolve design, wiring, assembly, and manufacturing issues.
  • Support engineering changes, product improvements, and standardization of designs and components.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and purchasing on electrical component specifications and substitutions.
  • Participate in design reviews, quality investigations, and root-cause analysis of electrical or manufacturing issues.
  • Support testing, inspection, and final verification of switchboards before shipment.
  • Assist with UL-related documentation, testing, and compliance activities.
  • Provide technical support to project managers, production personnel, field service, and customers when required.
  • Maintain accurate engineering records, drawings, BOMs, and revision documentation.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of relevant electrical engineering experience, preferably in switchgear, switchboards, electrical distribution equipment, control panels, or industrial power systems.
  • Working knowledge of UL 891 requirements and low-voltage switchboard construction.
  • Strong understanding of AC power distribution systems, circuit protection, electrical components, and control circuits.
  • Experience reading and creating electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and single-line diagrams.
  • Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC/NFPA 70).
  • Experience with engineering/design software such as AutoCAD Electrical, AutoCAD, EPLAN, or similar.
  • Ability to interpret customer specifications, electrical drawings, and technical documents.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and project management teams.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing UL 891 switchboards for commercial, industrial, or data-center applications.
  • Knowledge of ANSI/NEMA standards related to low-voltage switchgear and electrical distribution equipment.
  • Experience with power circuit breakers, molded-case circuit breakers (MCCBs), automatic transfer equipment, metering, protective relays, and control systems.
  • Familiarity with short-circuit and coordination studies.
  • Experience with busbar design, enclosure/layout requirements, and thermal considerations.
  • Experience supporting UL inspections, testing, and product certification.
  • Manufacturing or shop-floor experience with electrical equipment.
