Position Overview:
We are seeking a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join Siemens Mobility Rolling Stock, where we design and manufacture state-of-the-art locomotives, passenger coaches, and light rail vehicles that keep communities connected and moving. In this role, you will ensure the highest standards of quality and compliance in our welding and manufacturing processes. This is a second shift position.
What your day may look like:
  • Perform visual CWI, dimensional, mechanical, and non-destructive testing (NDT) inspections on welded and machined components and assemblies within the Carshell Welding and BG manufacturing areas.
  • Verify product compliance by ensuring all inspections are conducted to the correct configuration revision and meet applicable engineering drawings, specifications, quality standards, and work instructions.
  • Conduct first article inspections of parts, assemblies, tooling, and equipment, documenting results through summary reports, diagnostic findings, and quality system records.
  • Maintain and retrieve inspection, nonconformance, and configuration data within MRP systems, noncompliance tracking tools, and the Configuration Management System; evaluate inspection results and provide dispositions for routine defects.
  • Collaborate with Weld Staff, Engineering, customer inspectors, quality teams, and suppliers to support product acceptance and workflow progression, while providing guidance to newer employees and ensuring decisions minimize project delays, inefficiencies, and additional costs.

This posting outlines the primary responsibilities of the role, but is not all-inclusive; additional duties may be assigned in alignment with business needs.
What will make you thrive in this role:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a weld shop environment.
  • 1 or more years experience with CWI inspection of increasingly difficult inspection involving the application and working knowledge of sophisticated measuring techniques.
  • Proven experience interpreting complex dimensional drawings, weld standards, and specifications.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain one of the following:
    • AWS Certified Visual Weld Inspector Associate
      • OR:
      • VT Level II certification plus certification in one or more of the following Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques:
      • Dye Penetrant (PT)
      • Magnetic Particle (MT)
      • Ultrasonic Testing (UT)

The pay for this position is $31.35 per hour, plus an additional 10% for second shift differential. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications and premium geographic location.
