POSITION SUMMARY

A Piping Spool Dimension Inspector is responsible for inspecting fabricated piping spools to ensure they meet engineering drawings, dimensional tolerances, and quality standards before installation or shipment.

Job Summary

The Piping Spool Dimension Inspector performs dimensional inspections of fabricated piping spools to verify compliance with project specifications, engineering drawings, industry codes, and quality standards. The inspector uses precision measuring tools to ensure accurate fit-up, alignment, weld locations, and overall dimensional accuracy while documenting inspection results and identifying non-conformances.

Key Responsibilities

Inspect fabricated piping spools according to isometric drawings, P&IDs, and fabrication specifications.

  • Verify dimensions including:
  • Overall spool length
  • Center-to-center measurements
  • Flange orientation and rotation
  • Elbow angles
  • Branch locations
  • Pipe alignment and squareness
  • Check flange face dimensions, bolt hole orientation, and end preparations.
  • Use measuring equipment such as tape measures, Vernier calipers, laser measuring devices, angle finders, and levels.
  • Review fabrication drawings, weld maps, and quality documentation.
  • Record inspection results and prepare dimensional inspection reports.
  • Identifyand document non-conformances and coordinate corrective actions with fabrication personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, ASME codes, and client requirements.
  • Work with welding inspectors, QA/QC personnel, and production teams to resolve dimensional issues.
  • Maintain inspection records and ensure traceability of inspected components.
  • Follow company safety procedures and quality management systems.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training is preferred.
  • 2–5 years of experience in piping fabrication, QA/QC, or dimensional inspection.
  • Ability to read and interpret piping isometric drawings and fabrication blueprints.
  • Knowledge of piping fabrication processes and welding practices.
  • Familiarity with ASMEB31.1,B31.3, ASME Section V (where applicable), and industry quality standardssuch as PFI-ES-3.
  • Strong mathematical and measurement skills.
  • Proficiencyin Microsoft Office and inspection reporting softwarearean advantage.
