Job description

Vortex Tool Company is seeking a skilled professional to join our manufacturing team in Schofield, Wisconsin. We produce high-performance router and insert cutting tools for the woodworking and plastics industries, using state-of-the-art multi-axis grinding machines and advanced robotic work cells. This position focuses on the precision setup, operation, and programming of advanced production machinery to manufacture industry-leading cutting tools.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC machinery, with a focus on multi-axis CNC grinding machines and turning centers.

  • Calibrate and align machine setups using precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, and coordinate measuring machines.

  • Program CNC equipment using CAM programming software to establish accurate toolpaths.

  • Interpret blueprints, engineering schematics, and technical drawings to manufacture tools to exact specifications.

  • Execute tooling changes, mechanical adjustments, and machine troubleshooting during operation to maximize production uptime.

  • Perform quality checks using dial indicators, height gauges, and specialized measurement devices to ensure dimensional accuracy.

  • Maintain a clean, organized work area by properly handling hand tools, power tools, and tooling components.

  • Comply with workplace safety protocols, machine guarding guidelines, and protective equipment requirements.

  • Collaborate with production team members on lean manufacturing initiatives to optimize process efficiency and minimize waste.

Qualifications

  • Experience in CNC machining, CNC setup, and CNC operation within a precision manufacturing environment.

  • Proficiency in using manual precision inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, and height gauges.

  • Ability to read and interpret complex industrial blueprints, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and technical drawings.

  • Familiarity with CAM software, CNC programming structure, and machine control interfaces.

  • Technical troubleshooting skills to diagnose machine errors and adjust cutting tool parameters.

  • Understanding of lean manufacturing concepts, continuous improvement processes, and shop floor safety practices.

  • Strong manual dexterity and physical capability to handle tools, materials, and machinery components safely.

  • Effective communication skills to work productively within a collaborative team structure.
