Job description

Day in the life

Reporting to the Shop Supervisor, you’ll transform raw metal into precise components by operating CNC, conventional, and special‑purpose equipment. Your shift moves from safe part loading and setup through in‑process checks, adjustments, and final verification to ensure every piece meets spec.

What you'll handle
  • Load and unload workpieces with hoists and hand tools, securing them to the machining table.
  • Start up equipment, watch cycle performance, and correct malfunctions or out‑of‑tolerance conditions by adjusting controls or media.
  • Verify critical dimensions and alignment using micrometers, height gauges, and gauge blocks.
  • Tag or stamp completed parts and record run data on Process and Log sheets.
  • Clean parts using a washing machine and deburring tools (files, die grinders, hand grinders); stack on pallets or stage in tubs.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on manual and automated machines: clean interiors/exteriors, check and refill oil, and make minor repairs.
  • Notify the supervisor of equipment issues requiring additional service.
