Job description

The Claiborne High School golf coach is primarily responsible for the instruction, supervision, and spiritual or character development of student-athletes. Most positions in the state require compliance with TSSAA (Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association) regulations and often involve after-school hours for practices and matches.

Core Responsibilities
  • Skill Development: Instruction on technical fundamentals including grip, stance, swing mechanics, putting, and chipping.
  • Team Management: Developing practice plans, managing competition schedules, and organizing team travel to matches and tournaments.
  • Rules & Etiquette: Teaching and enforcing official golf rules, scoring procedures, and course etiquette.
  • Administrative Duties: Ensuring athlete eligibility, maintaining equipment inventories, and managing program budgets.
  • Mentorship: Modeling sportsmanship and personal conduct, while monitoring student-athletes' academic performance
Requirements & Qualifications
  • TSSAA Compliance: Must complete required TSSAA coaching courses and meet all eligibility standards.
  • Certifications: CPR and First Aid certifications are standard requirements.
  • Education: While a Bachelor's degree is often preferred, a high school diploma or GED is the minimum requirement for many districts.
  • Experience: Preference is typically given to candidates with previous high school or collegiate playing or coaching experience.
  • Background Clearances: Candidates must pass a standard background check and drug testing as per school district policies.
