Job description

CES Consulting, LLC, is an engineering and construction management firm focused on quality, safety, compliance, innovation, and value. The firm was founded in 2010 by three professionals passionate about resolving complex construction, time, and cost issues to ensure that transportation and civil infrastructure are safe, durable, and compliant. Over the years, CES expanded its services to include utility management, construction at-risk, and civil engineering services.

CES is also a VDOT pre-qualified contractor specializing in the construction of interstate and roadway lighting, overhead and ground-mounted signs, traffic signals, electrical work ITS, and roadway construction.

We are seeking to hire a Traffic Sign Foreman to support our clients in the Hampton Roads Virginia area.

Position Summary:

The Traffic Sign Foreman position is a full-time position with direct responsibility for personnel, equipment, scheduling, safety and quality. The Foreman will supervise and work alongside a crew of employees and occasionally subcontractors installing and constructing roadway signage projects, including but not limited to maintenance of traffic (MOT), excavation, backfill, reinforcing steel and concrete placement. The position requires experience to perform the tasks required and ensure that the projects are completed safely, on time and within budget.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the assigned project/task is completed on schedule and in accordance with the plans and set specifications.
  • Train, develop, and monitor the safety practices (including PPE) of all field employees through regularly scheduled safety meetings, one on one development and disciplinary action (if necessary).
  • Follows all requirements in the Company / Employee Handbook and Safety Manual including, but not limited to, safety training, employee observation, emergency procedures, and accident reporting and investigation.
  • Ensure compliance of production staff with all company policies and procedures, OSHA, EPA, and DOT guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area and meet other housekeeping needs and ensure all employees reporting to the Supervisor / Foreman do the same.
  • Read and follow plans, shop drawings, material lists, guidelines and apply necessary timelines to meet project completion schedules.
  • Submit crewmember’s timesheets to CES payroll department daily.
  • Record and submit production reports for all work performed and quantities installed daily.
  • Fulfill all regular and advanced installation/construction duties including project layout and complete required paperwork in a timely manner daily.
  • Perform equipment inspections and request service and maintenance if necessary.
  • Maintain good relations with the public, engineers, architects, inspectors and customers to facilitate job progress and promote a positive company image.
  • Assembly and installation of signs adjacent to high-volume roadways and interstates.
  • Transport materials, tools and equipment to/from installation sites.
  • Cut materials to specified sizes for installation using power tools as necessary.
  • Arrange for repairs of equipment or machinery.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Must pass pre-employment background and drug screening.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
  • 3-5 years of related experience in highway construction/overhead sign installation required.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

  • OSHA 10 hour preferred.
  • VDOT Intermediate Work Zone Safety Traffic Control Certification preferred.
  • Current Driver’s License required.
  • CDL preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Able to read plans and field location layout stakes.
  • Able to write simple correspondence, complete timesheets and quantity production sheets.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
  • Experienced in heavy equipment machinery.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Able to communicate with crew members in a professional, courteous, and effective manner.
  • Safety and Team Oriented.

Physical Demands:

  • Extensive physical activity performing strenuous daily activities of a primarily productive/technical nature. Includes standing and sitting for extended periods of time, stooping, bending and crouching.
  • Able to walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
  • Capable of lifting up to 70 pounds.
  • Able to stand, kneel, squat, bend, push, pull, climb, stretch, see, and hear regularly while performing the essential functions of the job.
  • Coordination between hand, eyes, feet to guide tools, equipment and objects is required.
  • Visual accuracy under varying degrees of light, darkness, and weather conditions in order to provide safe directions for operators of heavy equipment and other employees.
  • Able to work overtime and weekends, if necessary.
  • Able to travel when required.
