Overview:
Program Manager
The Program Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating progress of multiple projects within a program, managing dependencies across projects/workstreams, and ensuring alignment with strategic objectives. This role coordinates cross-functional teams, manages budgets and resources, mitigates risks, mentors and coaches Project Managers within their program, and communicates regularly with stakeholders to ensure program success. This role requires strong leadership, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage complex initiatives from conception to completion. This role also includes direct project management responsibilities as needed. The ideal candidate will have technical knowledge and experience with complex workflows.
Hybrid position--must be able to work on-site at Sentara Park, Virginia Beach, Virginia
Key Responsibilities
1. Program Planning & Execution
  • Define program objectives, scope, and deliverables.

  • Develop comprehensive program plans including timelines, milestones, and resource allocation.

  • Organize program governance and structure in collaboration with leadership.

  • Coordinate cross-functional teams for cohesive execution.

  • Monitor progress across projects, resolve challenges, and ensure alignment with program goals.

  • Identify and manage interdependencies across projects/workstreams.

2. Budget & Resource Management
  • Establish and manage program budgets to ensure cost-effectiveness.

  • Recommend resource allocation and optimization across projects.

  • Track financials and prepare program-level financial reports.

3. Stakeholder Communication & Reporting
  • Serve as primary contact for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Provide regular program status updates, risk reports, and milestone tracking to executive leadership.

  • Maintain transparent communication and build strong relationships with partners.

4. RAID & Change Management
  • Track Risks, Actions, Issues, Decisions, and Dependencies.

  • Develop mitigation and contingency plans, support and prompt actions to minimize impact on outcomes.

  • Enforce change control procedures across projects and programs.

5. Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement
  • Oversee quality control measures across projects.

  • Evaluate outcomes and integrate lessons learned into future initiatives.

  • Promote adherence to project/program management methodologies and best practices.

6. Mentoring & Leadership
  • Mentor and coach Project Managers and workstream teams.

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

7. Project Management
  • Define Project Objectives - Ensure clarity on goals, scope, and success criteria aligned with business strategy.

  • Plan and Organize - Develop a roadmap, allocate resources, and set timelines for delivery.

  • Lead and Coordinate - Direct the project team, foster collaboration, and maintain stakeholder alignment.

  • Monitor and Control - Track progress, manage risks, and ensure adherence to budget, schedule, and quality standards.

  • Communicate Effectively - Provide regular updates, manage expectations, and serve as the primary liaison between stakeholders and the team.

  • Ensure Delivery and Closure - Complete deliverables, obtain approvals, and conduct post-project reviews for lessons learned.

Education
  • High School / GED (Required)

  • Bachelor's Degree (Preferred)

Certification/Licensure
  • One of the following certifications or equivalent, but must obtain within 1 year of hire:

  • Project Management Institute Certified Associate Project Manager (CAPM)

  • Project Management Institute Project Management Professional (PMP)

  • Project Management Institute Agile Certified Practitioner (ACP)

  • Project Management Institute Program Management Professional (PgMP)

  • Scrum, SAFe or equivalent

Experience
  • 6+ years of experience in program or project management with a proven track record in managing large-scale, complex projects or programs (Required). 8+ years of experience in lieu of a bachelor's degree.

The ideal candidate will have:
  • Demonstrated experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple stakeholder relationships.

  • Healthcare experience

  • Care delivery (ambulatory, hospital, post-acute), health plan, corporate/shared services, and/or technical project management experience
  • Will have technical knowledge and experience with complex workflows
