Job description


Job Summary


CIM’s students aspire to be the future of classical music and by providing them with professional-level, exceptionally produced rehearsal and performance experiences, the Concerts, Events & Ensembles team helps them achieve their career goals. The Manager of Concerts and Events leads the execution of all onstage, backstage and front of house operations for all performances, competitions, and non-concert special events at CIM and offsite venues, across all divisions of the school.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities


  • Manages the planning, logistics, and execution of all concerts and events produced at CIM. Manage performance and rehearsal schedule, coordinate all technical and operational needs, to ensure the highest standard performance.
  • Serves as chief collaborator with CIM Director of Ensembles and CIM Opera Theater Production Manager for all CIM student ensembles, including Orchestra, New Music Ensemble and Opera Theater.
  • Serves as chief collaborator for Academy and Continuing Education programming.
  • Directs, supervises, and schedules student stagehands and crews, ushers, and student stage managers.
  • Work with Facilities Operations for all non-stage facility set up and tear down needs, including support areas, classrooms and lobby needs.
  • Manages execution of all competitions.
  • Act as primary point of contact for all rentals; coordinate technical and operational needs of rentals and external artistic partners.
  • Partner with additional CIM departments to produce major non-concert events throughout CIM’s campus and offsite, such as Convocations, Commencement, Orientation, Auditions, Board Meetings, Donor Receptions, and more.
  • Performs other related tasks as requested.

Education, Experience and Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in music or comparative experience; two or more years of experience in artistic operations.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in operating computer software and related technology.
  • Ability to read music is preferred.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements


This position works numerous evening and weekend events. The Manager is expected to move and set up stands, chairs, instruments and other stage equipment. Therefore, the position will require physical dexterity for moving, standing, or walking for significant periods of time and lifting up to 50 pounds. In addition, the Manager must comfortably be able to climb/crawl in tight areas and climb ladders.


Must be able to respond to after hours and weekend emergency calls. Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
