Job description

Temple Beth Zion (TBZ), a vibrant and historic Reform Jewish community, is seeking a highly organized, proactive, and missiondriven operations manager to oversee the daily functioning of our two campuses and ensure that our facilities, administrative systems, and event logistics run smoothly. This role is essential to the operational heartbeat of the congregation, supporting worship, learning, community programs, and the welcoming environment that defines TBZ.

About the Role

The operations manager serves as the central coordinator for building operations, maintenance oversight, security protocols, rentals, and event logistics. The ideal candidate is detailoriented, calm under pressure, and energized by supporting a missiondriven institution where no two days look the same. This role requires someone who communicates clearly, solves problems quickly, and brings a steady, supportive presence to a dynamic synagogue environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations and maintenance across both TBZ campuses, ensuring facilities are safe, functional, and prepared for all programs and services.
  • Manage maintenance staff, vendor relationships, and building contractors; coordinate repairs, capital projects, and preventative maintenance.
  • Maintain building security systems, emergency procedures, and compliance with safety regulations.
  • Coordinate logistics for Shabbat, High Holy Days, lifecycle events, community programs, museum events, and rentals.
  • Manage facility rental inquiries, contracts, payments, and event support for outside groups.
  • Maintain the master calendar of events, programs, and space usage; ensure smooth coordination across departments.
  • Support AV, livestreaming, and basic technology needs in partnership with vendors.
  • Oversee administrative workflows related to operations, including supplies, equipment, and recordkeeping.
  • Foster a collaborative, respectful workplace culture aligned with TBZ’s values.

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of experience in operations, facilities management, office administration, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and communication skills.
  • Experience supervising staff and managing vendor relationships.
  • Comfort with technology, Microsoft Office, Zoom, and Teams conferencing, and willingness to learn synagogue management platforms (e.g., ShulCloud).
  • Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays aligned with the Jewish calendar.
  • Familiarity with Jewish communal life or willingness to learn; alignment with Reform Jewish values of inclusivity and respect.

Why TBZ

This is an opportunity to support the operational backbone of a historic congregation committed to spiritual depth, community connection, and meaningful Jewish life. The operations manager plays a vital role in ensuring that TBZ remains a welcoming, safe, and professionally run environment for congregants, visitors, and the broader community.
