The special events staff position assists with the execution of UMFA internal and external events, which can include exhibition openings, fundraising galas and membership events, guest lectures, weddings and corporate events. Event staff members must always be professional and courteous in their demeanor and work in a variety of roles during museum events including set up and teardown, A/V support and guest relations. Hours are extremely variable and based on event bookings and schedule.
The Utah Museum of Fine Arts is located on the campus of the University of Utah and offers visitors the opportunity to explore over 5,000 years of human creativity with a collection of over 22,000 objects and art works from classic Greek and Roman antiquities to cutting-edge, contemporary art. Housed in the award-winning Marcia and John Price Museum Building, the UMFA is the official fine arts museum for both the state of Utah and the University and has established itself as one of the premier venues in the Greater Salt Lake Area.

Responsibilities
Special event staff members may be asked and must be willing to participate in all of the following tasks:
Implement floor plans by setting up tables, chairs, decor and A/V elements.
Courteously assist event guests with coat check and ushering.
Manage basic A/V functions and support.
Foster good working relationship between the UMFA and event vendors by helping when needed or requested.
Work dependably, with or without supervision, and problem solve by utilizing the materials and information at hand.
Efficiently break down and properly store all tables, chairs, linens, decor and A/V equipment at the end of each event.
Ensure event spaces and surrounding areas are clean prior to and after events, which may include tasks such as sweeping, mopping, wiping down tables or windows, and removing waste.
Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:

Event Support Specialist, I: Requires little to no related experience.
Preferences
Strong candidates will possess some or all of the following interests, skills, and experience:
Be able to work nights and weekends.
Ability to lift 50 pounds or more.
Previous experience in an events-related industry.
Previous experience in a customer service capacity.
Previous experience with A/V equipment.
Interests in the arts and/or working for a non-profit.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
An effective command of the English language, both written and spoken.
An aptitude for multi-tasking.
A strong sense of integrity.
The ability to learn and adapt quickly.
Works well under pressure.
Special Instructions Summary
Scheduled as needed based upon internal and external events. Hours are variable and can range from 0 to 10 weekly.
