Job description

Pratt Industries is currently seeking a safety-minded and technical Junior Boiler Operator for our Clean Energy Plant in Conyers, GA. The primary function of this role is to ensure the safe operation of the Multifuel Bubbling Fluidized Bed Boiler, emissions control systems, and the 9 MW steam turbine generator.

The successful candidate will perform critical testing, conduct minor mechanical maintenance, accurately manage administrative logs, and maintain high plant housekeeping standards. Operating within a fast-paced power and steam production environment, the Junior Boiler Operator plays a key role in maintaining operational efficiency and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Boiler & Systems Operations: Responsible for the safe operation of the Multifuel Bubbling Fluidized Bed Boiler and its corresponding emissions control system.
  • Turbine & Generator Operations: Responsible for the safe operation of the 9 MW steam turbo-generator.
  • Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform minor maintenance tasks within the plant to support continuous operations.
  • Testing & Chemistry: Responsible for conducting routine testing within the plant, including boiler water chemistry analysis.
  • Documentation & Administration: Maintain precise logs, records, and data sheets. Prepare reports, trends, time sheets, material requisitions, work orders, and other essential administrative documents related to the business of power and steam production.
  • Safety & Housekeeping: Ensure strict housekeeping standards are maintained across the plant or initiate corrective action as required.
  • General Operations: Complete additional operational duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in power plant and control room operations.
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Technical Proficiencies: Practical experience with boiler water chemistry analysis is required. Experience with solid fuel firing and heavy equipment operations are considered a plus.
  • Equipment Operations: Proven ability to operate valves, switches, controls, keyboards, and other vital devices associated with power plant equipment.
  • Tool & Mechanical Skills: Ability to use basic hand tools, portable electric and pneumatic tools, and basic rigging equipment such as winches, hoists, and slings. Competency using operational implements such as lances, shovels, and pry bars.
  • Technical Diagrams: Ability to understand and read mechanical and electrical drawings, including P&IDs, Single Line diagrams, schematics, and logics.
  • Problem Solving & Analytics: Ability to define complex problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form while managing several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Soft Skills & Crisis Management: Superior time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple issues concurrently. Must be an excellent crisis manager who demonstrates high emotional control under adverse conditions to lead personnel to a successful resolution.
  • Communication: Highly proficient ability to read, write, and comprehend complex technical information.
  • Availability: Must be willing and able to work rotating shifts on a DuPont Schedule.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly.
  • Requires the physical agility to climb stairs, ladders, and navigate elevated platforms or confined spaces.
  • Comfortable working around moving mechanical parts in an industrial environment with exposure to heat, noise, dust, and varying outdoor weather conditions.
