Manager Biomarker information

What is a manager biomarker?

A Manager Biomarker is a professional responsible for overseeing the development, validation, and implementation of biomarkers in clinical research and drug development. They coordinate multidisciplinary teams to ensure biomarkers are appropriately used to assess disease progression, drug efficacy, or patient response. This role involves strategic planning, regulatory compliance, and collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders. Managers in this field help bridge the gap between laboratory research and clinical application, ensuring biomarkers meet scientific and regulatory standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a manager biomarker?

To excel as a Manager Biomarker, you typically need an advanced degree in life sciences or a related field, strong expertise in biomarker discovery and validation, and experience in clinical or translational research. Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS), data analysis software, and regulatory guidelines such as GCP is crucial. Outstanding leadership, communication, and project management skills help drive cross-functional teams and ensure timely project delivery. These competencies are vital for integrating biomarker strategies into drug development, ensuring scientific rigor, and advancing clinical outcomes.

How does a manager biomarker typically collaborate with cross-functional teams in a pharmaceutical company?

A Manager Biomarker plays a crucial role in bridging scientific and clinical teams, often working closely with research scientists, clinical operations, regulatory affairs, and data management groups. They facilitate communication between these teams to ensure biomarker strategies are effectively integrated into clinical trials and drug development plans. This collaboration involves leading meetings, ensuring alignment on project timelines, and interpreting data to inform key decisions. Strong teamwork and communication skills are essential, as the Manager Biomarker must translate complex scientific findings into actionable insights for various stakeholders.

What is the difference between Manager Biomarker vs Biomarker Scientist?

AspectManager BiomarkerBiomarker Scientist
Required CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Life Sciences, often with management experienceTypically PhD or Master's in Biology, Biochemistry, or related fields
Work EnvironmentLeads teams in clinical or research settings, oversees projectsConducts laboratory research, experiments, and data analysis
Employer & Industry UsagePharmaceutical, biotech, clinical research organizationsResearch institutions, biotech companies, academia
Search & Comparison IntentFocuses on leadership, project management, and team oversightFocuses on scientific research, data generation, and analysis

The Manager Biomarker role emphasizes team leadership, project management, and overseeing biomarker research projects. In contrast, a Biomarker Scientist primarily conducts laboratory research and data analysis. Both roles are integral in biotech and pharmaceutical industries but differ in responsibilities and required qualifications.

Job description

Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq ARWR) is a commercial stage biopharmaceutical company that develops medicines that treat intractable diseases by silencing the genes that cause them. Using a broad portfolio of RNA chemistries and efficient modes of delivery, Arrowhead therapies trigger the RNA interference mechanism to induce rapid, deep, and durable knockdown of target genes. RNA interference, or RNAi, is a mechanism present in living cells that inhibits the expression of a specific gene, thereby affecting the production of a specific protein. Arrowhead's RNAi-based therapeutics leverage this natural pathway of gene silencing.
Arrowhead is focused on developing innovative drugs for diseases with a genetic basis, typically characterized by the overproduction of one or more proteins that are involved with disease. The depth and versatility of our RNAi technologies enables us to potentially address conditions in virtually any therapeutic area and pursue disease targets that are not otherwise addressable by small molecules and biologics. Arrowhead is leading the field in bringing the promise of RNAi to address diseases outside of the liver, and our clinical pipeline includes disease targets in the liver and lung with a promising pipeline of preclinical candidates.
Arrowhead's corporate headquarters is in Pasadena, CA with research and development teams in Madison, WI & San Diego, CA, and a state of the art manufacturing facility in Verona, WI. Our employees are nimble, science-driven innovators who are collaborating to bring new therapies to patients in need.
The Position
This Senior Scientist will be part of a team responsible for delivery of translational biomarker strategies for drug development candidates. The ideal candidate will possess in-depth experience in translational research/medicine and clinical biomarkers in drug development. The candidate will also have strong communication skills, ability to work in a matrixed-based, fast paced environment, solid problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to excellence.
Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and execute robust "fit-for-purpose" clinical biomarker assays to support the evaluation of pharmacodynamics, and prediction of clinical response.
  • Identify and evaluate new technologies to support our evolving translational biomarker strategies.
  • Partner with outsourcing functions to evaluate new CROs, drive transitioning and monitoring internally developed assays to external vendors.
  • Effectively collaborate in a highly matrixed organization to drive advancement of early-stage projects into translational and clinical development.
  • May lead Associate Scientists as a manager or mentor.
  • Author and oversee documentation through all stages in GCLP-regulated clinical sample testing.

Requirements
  • PhD in Biology or Chemistry related sciences and at least 5 or more years of industrial experience applying translational biomarker technologies for discovery and/or clinical research.
  • Extensive experience in assay development, GCLP validation, and implementation of soluble biomarker assays for clinical studies.
  • Extensive experience and thorough understanding of immunochemical techniques, protein biochemistry, LC-MS, molecular biology techniques.
  • Excellent organizational skills and familiarity with a fast-paced work environment.

Preferred
  • Experience with assay development for MSD, Quanterix, ELISA, NuLISA, LC-MS, qPCR platforms/techniques
