Job description

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:
NPC is searching for an Assistant Men's and an Assistant Women's Basketball Coach. These positions are responsible for providing direct support to the Head Men's and Women's Basketball Coaches. The ideal candidates will assist in recruiting, instructing, and coaching students and coordinating various program related activities. The Assistant Coaches are required to abide by the rules and regulations established by National Park College and the National Junior College Athletic Association. This position comes with an option for on-campus housing which will be discussed in the interview process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Teach sport skills, condition and motivate student-athletes to positive action and utilize effective strategies to produce a successful student experience.
  • Monitor student-athlete attendance, academic progress and graduation.
  • Assis the Head Basketball Coaches with recruitment efforts to ensure recruitment of a sufficient number of new student-athletes annually and retain current student-athletes, in accordance with National Park College and NJCAA rules and regulations, through scouting, attending games/tournaments, and home visits.
  • Assist student-athletes with eligibility requirements/compliance paperwork.
  • Under the direction of the Head Basketball Coaches, assist with planning and preparation of practice and competitive strategy plans.
  • Work with the Athletic Director and Head Basketball Coaches to arrange team schedules, including travel to games and practice.
  • Ensure game day operations are in place, including but not limited to officials, venue set up/tear down and trainers.
  • Provide statistics and reports to the Athletic Director and the NJCAA when needed.
  • Assist the Head Basketball Coaches with all aspects, areas, and components of the team.
  • Represent the sports program at various institutional programs and externally to the media, government agencies, funding agencies, students, parents, and the community.

Gym Assistant
  • Assist the facilities manager by maintaining a consistent physical presence in the gym to support, monitor, and assist students and student-athletes.
  • Supervise gym floor activities to ensure a safe environment, enforce facility rules, and maintain proper student behavior.
  • Manage gym equipment and facility inventory, tracking usage and reporting any maintenance or replacement needs.
  • Handle athletic and team laundry operations, ensuring uniforms and gear are clean, organized, and ready for use.
  • Provide necessary staffing coverage to extend gym operations, enabling later weekday hours and maintaining managed hours during the weekend.

Required skills/abilities:
  • Provide leadership to the basketball program
  • Work as a team member of the NPC Athletic Staff as a whole
  • Serve as a part of the Admissions team for NPC. To include recruiting of both traditional and non-traditional students. This could include working at college fairs, high school visits and other on and off campus events.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Education and Experience
Minimum Requirements
  • Associate's degree required.
  • Previous coaching or playing experience at the college level preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of baseball fundamentals, strategy, and player development.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience with recruiting and working with student-athletes in an academic setting.
  • Knowledge of NJCAA eligibility and compliance standards.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).

Physical Requirements
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions during practices and games.
  • Physical demands include standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, and demonstrating sport-specific skills.
  • Office work and computer use required for recruiting, reports, and communications.
  • Will be expected to travel to home and away games. Some games will require overnight travel.
