Job Description:

Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking a Senior Manager, Ballistics for its Huntsville, AL Headquarters.
This position is responsible for leading the Missile Solutions Engineering Ballistics group within the Design and Analysis group. This group focuses on the design, analysis and integration of solid propellant based propulsion systems with specific responsibility for Internal Ballistics and Solid Propulsion Performance. Programs supported include both military and commercial applications. This is a fast-paced environment that requires knowledge of the entire value stream from proposals to product implementation.

Essential Functions:

  • 50% - Provides technical leadership for the Missile Solutions Engineering Ballistics group which is critical to Aerojet Rocketdyne Development and Production Programs. Advises subordinates in the resolution of technical, programmatic, and operational problems based on specific goals, Aerojet Rocketdyne policy, procedures and meeting established schedules.
  • 20% - Develops and implements processes and tools as appropriate for the Missile Solutions Engineering Ballistics group for continued development, education and training. Participates in Technical Meetings (internal and external) as required to maintain knowledge in this field. Works across the company to ensure consistent application of best practices in performing job responsibilities.
  • 20% - Manages direct reports working on a variety of project activities. Supports goals of integrated product teams by balancing work-loads and priorities of direct reports and addressing administrative issues pertaining to the accomplishment of tasks. Manages training budgets, conducts performance appraisals, and supports discretionary tasks as required.
  • 10% - Works closely with the Business Development, Program Management., and Engineering Leadership to develop solutions and response to potential customer Propulsion system inquiries and proposal support.
  • Travel: 10%.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 12 years of prior Engineering/Analysis experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 10 years of prior  Engineering/Analysis experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior  Engineering/Analysis experience.
  • 8 years' experience with design and analysis of solid propulsion systems.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and strong communication skills managing a team of engineers with multiple assignments and priorities.
  • 5 years Knowledge of DoD Security Regulation.
  • 5 years' EAR/ITAR experience.
  • Active US Secret Security Clearance.

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (or other related discipline) is preferred.
  • Advanced degree desired.
  • Understanding of and planning skills for technology development for new propulsion products, including familiarity with performance metrics such as cost, schedule, and variance analysis.
  • Experience with Software & Engineering Associates, Inc Solid Performance Program (SPP) is desired.
