Job description

Employment Type: Regular Full-Time

Shift: 1st Shift

Work Status: On-site

Position Summary: 

The Certified Tester TFR performs various duties involved in the product examination of all special products and the testing of all heat transfer division products manufactured under the provisions of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) requirements.

Measures of success:

  • On time completion of inspection duties
  • Ability to coach fellow employees on ASME welding requirements
  • Proper oversight of the testing area to ensure production flow to meet production goals.

Responsibilities: 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Works from verbal and written instructions and quality procedures. Follows standard quality practices and procedures.  Uses water pressure equipment, air hose, weld gauges, adjustable measuring instruments, computer scanning devices, flashlight and inspection mirror.
  • Consults with ASME Authorized Inspector when there are discrepancies. Coordinates hydro testing priorities with ASME Authorized Inspector.
  • Ensures that all vessels are pressurized to 1 1/3 times the M.A.W.P. Observes all welds for undercut, under flush, excessive deposits, proper blends, excess spatter, cracks and leaks.
  • Initials all acceptable products indicating that all proper quality requirements have been met. Highlights all discrepancies with bold markings and notifies the appropriate supervisor that a repair or rework is required.
  • Maintains record of defective units, indicating the type of defect by completing form QF-063.
  • Maintains record of all necessary records. Moves material as necessary in the performance of the job.
  • Detects and reports improper operations, faulty equipment, defective materials and unusual conditions to proper supervision.
  • Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition. Follows prescribed safety and health rules.
  • Performs other duties as required or directed.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in manufacturing assembly, welding or quality assurance
  • ASME Section VIII Div. 1 experience preferred
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and effectively apply to assigned work
  • Ability to navigate multiple windows in company Enterprise Resource Program (ERP) system to access production and resource data
  • Ability to perform repetitive work requiring constant alertness or activity, and including standing and lifting
  • Ability to manage time effectively to meet strict time deadlines and production volumes
  • Requires judgment to comply with instructions, prescribed routines, methods and practices
  • Excellent teamwork skills

Work Environment

This position works primarily in a production floor environment where large equipment and noise are prevalent.  Safety gear is required in these areas.

This position reports into the site every day.
