As a Business Development Manager - Specifications, you will lead efforts to increase the specification and adoption of Potter Fire Suppression solutions across the United States by building strong relationships with consulting engineers, architects, end users, and other industry influencers. In this role, you’ll position Potter products as preferred solutions within project specifications and work closely with Sales, Product Management, Marketing, and channel partners to identify opportunities, shape project requirements, and convert specifications into longterm commercial growth—especially within corrosion solutions and missioncritical applications. What You’ll Do
  • Increase Potter Fire Suppression product presence within consultingengineer, architect, enduser, and project specifications across targeted markets.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with consulting engineers, specifying professionals, end users, contractors, and other key industry influencers.
  • Deliver technical presentations, educational programs, and consultative discussions that drive product preference and specification adoption.
  • Maintain and support development of master specifications, engineering resources, and specification tools, including updates for new and existing products.
  • Utilize market, project, and specification data to identify opportunities, prioritize engineering relationships, and increase specification penetration.
  • Partner with Sales to track specified projects through the sales cycle and support conversion from specification to customer order.
  • Collaborate with Product Management and Marketing to support product launches, commercialization initiatives, technical content, and market positioning.
  • Provide Voice of the Customer (VOC), competitive intelligence, and market feedback regarding customer needs, industry trends, and code or regulatory developments.
  • Support strategic growth initiatives focused on corrosion solutions, missioncritical applications, and other targeted Fire Suppression markets.
  • Participate in national, regional, and local industry associations, technical seminars, trade shows, and customer events to strengthen Potter’s market presence and industry relationships.
  • Maintain accurate CRM activity, project tracking, specification pipeline, and businessdevelopment reporting.
  • Manage travel and businessdevelopment activities in alignment with approved budgets and business priorities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Bring

Experience That Drives Success

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience supporting strong technical and commercial engagement.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in fire suppression, fire protection, technical sales, engineering, specifications, or related industry experience.
  • Experience working with consulting engineers, contractors, end users, or other technical decisionmakers in project or specification environments.
  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate technical information related to fire suppression products and applications.
  • Strong presentation skills with experience delivering technical or commercial content to customers and industry stakeholders.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet business travel requirements for national and regional engagement.
