POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Application Administrator manages, maintains, and improves the organization's application systems to keep them secure, reliable, efficient, and compliant. This is a high-trust role that requires consistent adherence to established policies, procedures, and controls. As part of BJU IT's Application Support team, this role primarily administers the Ellucian Colleague (Saas) student information system - supporting daily operations, configuration and users. Secondary responsibilities may include administering additional enterprise applications and other duties as assigned. Because BJU IT operates as a shared services organization, this role supports teams across the BJU family - including Bob Jones University, Bob Jones Academy, and BJU Press - helping them serve students and constituents with excellence in support of BJU's mission.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Administer, configure, maintain, and support enterprise application systems to ensure secure, reliable, and efficient day-to-day operations.
  • Administer and manage user access, roles, and permissions in accordance with institutional policy, data governance, and security requirements.
  • Monitor application performance and health; proactively identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues impacting availability, functionality, or user experience.
  • Coordinate issue resolution and enhancements by partnering with infrastructure teams, application developers, and external vendors.
  • Apply software updates and patches to maintain stability, security, and compliance.
  • Perform maintenance, validation, and operational checks to ensure data accuracy and continuity of service.
  • Support data analysis, reporting, and integrations to meet institutional and operational needs.
  • Promote and manage code deployments in accordance with established change-management and release procedures.
  • Safeguard sensitive institutional and student data by enforcing security controls, monitoring access, and following all applicable policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Document system configurations, processes, and procedures to preserve institutional knowledge and support continuity.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to diagnose system issues, interpret data, and identify effective solutions.
  • High attention to detail to ensure data integrity, reporting accuracy, and consistent system configuration.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting to support institutional, operational, and decision-making needs.
  • Working knowledge of SQL (preferred) for data queries, reporting, and supporting integrations.
  • Understanding of application security principles, including user roles, permissions, and access controls to protect sensitive student and institutional data.
  • Experience supporting and troubleshooting application integrations and data exchanges; experience in a SaaS environment is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of software lifecycle and maintenance concepts, including vendor releases, updates, patches, and deployment processes.
  • Familiarity with Student Information Systems (SIS)-preferably Ellucian Colleague-and related educational technology platforms.
  • Basic understanding of database concepts and working with structured data in enterprise systems.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to produce clear documentation, operational reports, and executive-level briefings as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and manage work effectively in a shared-services environment.
  • Aptitude for learning new technologies and adapting to changing requirements, processes, and institutional priorities.
  • Bachelor's degree (four-year college or university) or four or more years of related experience.
  • Basic understanding of networking and server applications
  • Automated testing tool
  • PowerBi or equivalent
