Job description

We have an exciting opportunity to join us in supporting one of our valued customers as a Software Application, SME to work out of Offutt AFB, NE supporting the United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM).
Job Summary:
The Software Application SME serves as a recognized expert in software application development and integration in support of USSTRATCOM and AFNWC at Offutt Air Force Base. This role delivers strategic technical guidance for mission-critical systems and supports the sustainment, modernization, and integration of enterprise software. The SME actively contributes to all phases of the software development lifecycle while ensuring compliance with DoD directives and security requirements.
Essential Duties:
  • Define business and technical requirements and recommend appropriate software solutions.
  • Lead or support specialized workgroups focused on software engineering, integration, and modernization efforts.
  • Develop technical design specifications and translate requirements into actionable development tasks and algorithms.
  • Oversee and validate software development, testing, implementation, and delivery activities.
  • Review and refine technical documentation, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
  • Provide expert guidance on best practices in software development, architecture, and system implementation.
  • Support sustainment, modernization, and feature development for enterprise software systems (e.g., SMPES, MPAS, NPES, DSS, GAP CIE).
  • Ensure compliance with information security and system-wide assurance processes.
  • Participate in Agile development activities, including coding, automation, testing, code reviews, and backlog refinement.
  • Integrate new software capabilities into operational platforms and evaluate emerging technologies for mission applicability.
  • Support cybersecurity implementation, risk assessments, and compliance with RMF requirements.
  • Contribute to program management processes, requirements tracking, technical evaluations, and metric development.
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining program documentation, reports, and technical deliverables.

Required Qualifications:
  • 12+ years of directly related experience
  • Minimum 8 years supporting the DoD
  • Demonstrated subject matter expertise in IT or software applications
  • Agile, DevSecOps, and CI/CD development experience
  • Familiarity with DoD software directives, secure development standards, and cybersecurity principles
  • Experience integrating systems across hybrid on-premise/cloud architectures
  • Knowledge of NIST 800-53, DoD RMF tools (eMASS/Xacta), and security assessment tool

Education/ Certification: Education:
  • Advanced Degree (MA/MS) in the respective technical/professional disciplines being performed, additional years of directly related experience may be used in lieu of education
  • Active Security+ certification required
