About the role
We're looking for a Vice President, Content Protection & Anti-Piracy to define and lead our global strategy for protecting one of the world's largest anime libraries and the intellectual property that powers our business. Reporting to the General Counsel, you'll shape how Crunchyroll combats digital piracy and enables secure global distribution. You'll establish the long-term vision, operating model, technology roadmap, and strategic partnerships that help us stay ahead of evolving threats while supporting the continued growth of our business.
  • Define Crunchyroll's global content protection and anti-piracy strategy aligned with our long-term business and content distribution goals
  • Establish the vision, operating model, technology roadmap, and investment priorities for protecting Crunchyroll's intellectual property worldwide
  • Advise executive leadership on piracy trends, enterprise risk, regulatory developments, and strategic opportunities
  • Evaluate new technologies, AI-enabled enforcement capabilities, and industry best practices to continuously strengthen our approach
  • Oversee Crunchyroll's global content protection organization and day-to-day anti-piracy operations
  • Manage external enforcement partners responsible for notice generation, investigations, intelligence gathering, software development, and unauthorized content detection
  • Drive scalable enforcement across websites, streaming platforms, social media, search engines, cyberlockers, and other online services
  • Partner across Legal, Product, Engineering, Content Operations, Trust & Safety, Security, and Sony Pictures Entertainment to improve enforcement capabilities and operational effectiveness
  • Build strategic relationships with digital platforms, hosting providers, registrars, CDN providers, payment processors, and industry organizations
  • Direct investigations into piracy ecosystems, monitor evolving threats, and recommend proactive strategies to reduce infringement and mitigate future risk
  • Develop executive reporting, dashboards, KPIs, and analytics that measure enforcement effectiveness, return on investment, and business impact
  • Provide strategic guidance on global copyright laws, DMCA processes, platform enforcement programs, and industry best practices
  • Support executive initiatives and special projects related to protecting Crunchyroll's intellectual property

We are considering applicants available to work a hybrid schedule, with three days each week onsite at our Los Angeles office.
About You

  • 15+ years of experience leading content protection, anti-piracy, digital rights management (DRM), trust & safety, intellectual property enforcement, or related programs.
  • Senior leadership experience within global streaming, media, or entertainment companies, building and scaling enterprise content protection programs that support worldwide content distribution.
  • Proven experience developing and leading global content protection or anti-piracy strategies, including setting long-term vision, influencing executive leadership, and driving cross-functional execution.
  • Demonstrated success leading global teams, managing external vendors and strategic partners, and building strong relationships across complex organizations.
  • Deep understanding of global copyright law, DMCA processes, platform enforcement programs, digital content distribution, online piracy, and the broader internet ecosystem.
  • Experience leading investigations into unauthorized content distribution and developing proactive strategies that improve enforcement effectiveness.
  • Hands-on experience with industry enforcement platforms, including YouTube Content ID, Meta Rights Manager, and Google Trusted Copyright Removal Program (TCRP).
  • Strong analytical, executive communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal and technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience. Degrees in Computer Science, Information Technology, Criminal Justice, Data Science, Business, or related disciplines are preferred.

Preferred
  • Juris Doctor or advanced degree in Law, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience with digital fingerprinting technologies, content recognition systems, DRM, media asset protection, OSINT techniques, cyber investigations, domain and hosting infrastructure, CDN technologies, or online payment ecosystems.
  • Experience building executive dashboards and measuring program effectiveness through data and analytics.
  • Established relationships with major digital platforms, hosting providers, and industry organizations supporting copyright enforcement.
