Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:
Provide general assistance to the anesthesia department under the direction of anesthesiologist MD's, anesthesiologist CRNA, and anesthesiologist RN's. This position does not require license or certification, but is a general aid, and works solely at the direction of the clinical team. General duties and responsibilities are listed below.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
  • High School graduate

EXPERIENCE
  • Six (6) months recent clinical O.R. Anesthesia Technologist experience preferred

COMPETENCIES
  • Good verbal and written communication skills. Good interpersonal skills. Ability to work well with other members of the health care team.
  • Ability to remain calm under intense and high pressure situations and follow directions.
  • Knowledge of medical/surgical terminology. Knowledge of surgical equipment in relation to procedures preferred.
  • Knowledge of positioning and transporting sedated and/or anesthetized patients.
  • Ability to read and write English with a command of verbal English.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Ability to work in a time oriented environment including exposure to all patient elements, i.e., blood borne pathogens and exposure to environmental hazards such as anesthetic gases or elements.
  • Job requires lifting, pulling of patient, pushing stretchers, standing, walking and restraining patients.
  • Must have basic computer skills and ability to access internet and other programs applicable to Waterbury Hospital procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Under the direction of the nurse manager with moderate supervision, the Anesthesia Tech will maintain and stock supplies in the anesthesia carts and machines, as well as ensure supplies are not outdated nor depleted at all times.

  • They will ensure the anesthesia machines and equipment are sanitized and equipment components functions.

  • The colleague originates and processes orders to the Store Room, Purchasing and Pharmacy for supplies and drugs.

  • He/she maintains supply inventory for daily use in the three department work rooms .

  • The colleague will clean and sterilize equipment, clean and stock specific anesthesia carts and clean work rooms and store rooms.

  • He/she will process equipment for repair and follow up on the status of the equipment repair, and report missing equipment to supervisor.

  • Partial access to medications is given to the incumbent of this position because they are required by their job responsibilities to transport or stock medications to approved medication storage locations.

  • Performs other duties as necessary
