Qualifications
Required:
  • Hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required
  • Have content knowledge in the area you are applying as indicated by your major/minor, previous experiences, or certifications.
  • For PreK teachers: Hold an active EC-6 Certificate
  • Can pass a criminal background check
Preferred:
  • Minimum 1-2 years teaching experience
  • Teacher certification for core content
  • K-3: Reading Academy Certified

Your Mission
Redefine what's possible in public education by ensuring every student-especially those with dyslexia and related learning differences-has access to the tools, skills, and support needed to thrive. As a Dyslexia Teacher at Compass Rose, you play a critical role in preparing students with both the academic and social-emotional skills necessary to persist, advocate for themselves, and engage productively in their communities.
Learning does not stop in the general education classroom. Your work directly reflects Compass Rose's commitment to partnering with families and the community. We listen to what they want for their children, take those aspirations seriously, and design our supports and interventions to meet those needs. In this role, you help ensure our dyslexia services align with the desires and strengths of our community.
To this end, you teach and support:
  • Evidence-based, structured literacy skills that empower students to become confident, independent readers ready for rigorous academic pathways.
  • Social-emotional skills and self-advocacy strategies that help students understand their learning profiles, build resilience, and develop the confidence to navigate challenges in school and beyond.

Your Responsibilities
Planning
  • Engage in intentional, research-based planning to deliver structured, explicit, multisensory literacy instruction aligned with TEA-approved dyslexia programs and the Texas Dyslexia Handbook.
  • Develop intervention plans that align to Section 504 Service Plans or IEP goals, ensuring instructional materials meet state requirements and support diverse learners with dyslexia and related disorders.
  • Collect, analyze, and use formal and informal progress-monitoring data (e.g., curriculum-based measures, district-approved tools) to update instructional plans and ensure growth for all students served.
  • Anticipate potential misconceptions related to phonological awareness, decoding, encoding, and language structure, ensuring lessons connect to students' background knowledge and home experiences.
  • Design questions and intervention activities that promote complex thinking, metacognition, and student self-awareness of their learning profile..
Instructional Delivery
  • Provide direct, explicit, systematic, and multisensory instruction that builds foundational literacy skills in alignment with TEA-approved structured literacy programs.
  • Deliver targeted small-group or individual intervention with persistence-asking probing questions, correcting errors with immediacy, and reteaching until students demonstrate mastery of skills aligned to their intervention goals.
  • Maintain an instructional environment where students spend at least 80% of the time actively practicing skills, engaging in multisensory routines, and taking ownership of their learning.
  • Convey accurate content knowledge related to phonics, phonemic awareness, morphology, fluency, comprehension, and written expression, presenting content in ways that connect to multiple contexts and disciplines.
  • Integrate culturally responsive materials and examples that affirm students' identities and broaden awareness of global diversity.
  • Adapt lessons and instructional methods to the individual needs of students, providing differentiated supports, accommodations, and scaffolds that ensure all students access to the curriculum and progress toward goals.
Learning Environment
  • Establish and maintain clear procedures, routines, and transitions that support a structured, predictable, and emotionally safe intervention setting.
  • Consistently use community-building practices and restorative circles to strengthen relationships and promote self-confidence in learners who may have experienced academic frustration.
  • Build trust with students and families by attending to the whole child-their emotional well-being, learning needs, strengths, and family context.
  • Serve as an advocate for students with dyslexia, ensuring equitable access to accommodations and instructional supports in all classroom environments.
Professional Practices and Responsibilities
  • Uphold professional standards consistent with the Texas Educators' Code of Ethics, state dyslexia policies, Section 504 and IDEA requirements, and the Compass Rose Employee Handbook.
  • Maintain accurate and timely service logs, progress-monitoring data, and documentation in district systems (e.g., Frontline) in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development, campus learning communities, and network-wide training to deepen expertise in structured literacy and dyslexia intervention.
  • Participate in Section 504 meetings, ARD meetings, and parent conferences, communicating student progress and instructional recommendations clearly and consistently.
  • Set professional goals based on reflection and feedback; model the mission, vision, and values of Compass Rose in all interactions with students, families, and colleagues.
Other School Responsibilities
  • Maintain up-to-date electronic records, including grades where applicable, and meet all deadlines for documentation and communication.
  • Participate in weekly check-ins with managers, observation debrief cycles, and relevant coaching sessions.
  • Support campus and network needs by participating in after-school or Saturday tutoring, family engagement events, and student recruitment activities as required.
  • Attend required campus and network professional development sessions.
  • Fulfill duties related to school operations and community engagement, including parent-teacher conferences, report card pick-up, and recruitment events.
  • Follow all current district and campus health and safety procedures, including any COVID-related policies.
