Job description

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Operations and Information Management Division at Babson College is seeking applicants for full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professors in Information Systems (including digital technologies and analytics) starting in the 2027-28 academic year. Our expectation is to hire at the Assistant level, but individuals with exceptional experience could be considered at the Associate level. We seek intellectually curious colleagues who are aligned with our mission of educating responsible entrepreneurial leaders who create economic and social value everywhere, and we are focused on attracting exceptional talent to add to the academic experience on our campus.

About the Operations & Information Management Division

The Operations and Information Management (OIM) Division at Babson College is a community of collaborative, supportive colleagues, skilled at creative, experiential teaching methods. The OIM division comprises: (1) Eleven (11) academic professors with Ph.D. degrees and consulting experience who are accomplished researchers and exceptional teachers. Of the 11, 5 specialize in Information Systems (including data management, analytics, and digital transformation) and 6 specialize in Innovation and Operations Management. (2) Eight (8) professors of practice who have extensive industry connections (consulting and training) and (3) nine (9) adjunct professors who are practitioners in their respective fields.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Teach a variety of topics in a core information systems course (including, at a foundational level, topics such as data management, IS design, AI/ML) at the undergraduate level delivered to an entrepreneurially focused, global, and multi-cultural student population in a business-focused school. Keenly interested in research with a proven track record of publications (or a strong pipeline of potential publications emerging from their doctoral program). Enthusiastic about teaching Babsonโ€™s undergraduate information systems core course Digital Technology for Entrepreneurs. This course is a broad survey of key and current topics in information systems. Interested in publishing in both academic and practitioner outlets (journals). Babson College emphasizes top-quality academic outlets. Babson College also encourages publications in top-quality practitioner outlets. Interested in developing a portfolio of materials (scholarly/practical) to contribute to broader academic communities and practice. Assume additional responsibilities as required.

WHAT EDUCATION AND SKILLS YOU WILL NEED

A background in business with strong technical skills in the application/use of AI/ML. Candidates with a degree in Computer Science are welcome to apply. Ideal candidates would be those who can teach our core undergraduate course and lead the divisionโ€™s efforts to develop a strong portfolio of technology courses focusing on AI/ML to keep us consistent with the industry demands. Works as a team player and is willing to collaborate with faculty within and across disciplines, both in integrated team teaching and in college service. Experienced with, and committed to, working in ways that will support and enhance the Collegeโ€™s commitment to teaching in an aligned, engaged, and inclusive manner. Willingness to embrace Babsonโ€™s unique approach to higher education. Desire to invest in Babsonโ€™s success through active engagement in the campus community and as a helpful colleague.

HOW AND WHERE YOU WILL WORK

Ability to teach courses in-person, on-campus. The typical course load for a pre-tenure Assistant Professor position is four courses per year. This is an exempt position with the following pay range: $170,795-$179,784.
