Job Title: Building Maintenance Assistant

Time commitment: 20-24 hours per week

Reports to: Executive Director

Status: Full-time, exempt

Pay: $17.00 hour


The maintenance assistant will work directly with the Maintenance Director to ensure the facility remains safe, functional, and appealing to students and visitors. This will include general cleanliness, maintenance, painting, and other projects as assigned.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Able to lift up to 70 lbs regularly
  • Various painting projects
  • Scraping sidewalks of ice/snow and salting (dumpster area as well)
  • Clogged toilet or sink and basic bathroom/kitchen plumbing
  • Landscape maintenance not done by contractor
  • Fixing living spaces and office spaces as needed or scheduling professionals as needed (cabinets, fridges, etc.)
  • Apartment appliance maintenance and upkeep
  • Coordinate apartment cleaning monthly, between crew and staff
  • Clean supply areas and janitorial areas
  • Parking lot maintenance and upkeep along with cleaning dumpster area regularly
  • Change out smoke alarm batteries on rotation rather than when beeping
  • Service locks and panic bars for smooth operation
  • Operate machinery for maintenance (ie: lawn trimmer, mower, scissor lift, vehicles, etc)
  • Replace ceiling tiles that are soiled or discolored
  • Certifications / fire drills, maintenance / chemical SDS emergency book
  • Floor maintenance
  • Power washing
  • Able to be performed without supervision (with minimal training) and with a final outcome that is typical of a new building
  • A self-starter and hard worker
  • Safely climb ladders, stand for extended periods of time, sit, stand, lay down and stand back up as part of daily routine
