Job description

We are looking for an experienced Risk Engineering Manager/Facilities Engineering Manager to oversee risk engineering, fire protection and prevention and emergency response activities associated with Kodak’s specialty chemical and film, commercial inkjet and traditional printing equipment manufacturing operations. This position will report to the Director WW Health, Safety and Environment, as part of Kodak’s global HSE team. While the position will primarily focus on operations in Rochester, NY, it will also interact with Kodak’s other US and global manufacturing locations.


As the Risk Engineering Manager you will develop and support processes to manage risk analysis and reduce the risk of dangerous and/or catastrophic events. You will serve as a subject matter expert, ensuring company operations conform to governmental codes (e.g. building, fire, electrical safety) and associated standards and regulations. You will similarly support Eastman Business Park site management to ensure safe and responsible operations of building tenants within Kodak premises. This role will also provide oversight and management of Kodak’s Fire Department based in Eastman Business Park. Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications.


Responsibilities:

1. Provide technical guidance and engineering recommendations for all new and existing Kodak projects and processes to ensure risk reduction and code compliance in a cost-effective manner. Issues addressed include proper chemical storage and handling, fire sprinkler installation and modification, other fire protection equipment including pumps, fire doors dampers, suppression systems, etc. as well as review and approval of operations and processes.

2. In support of Eastman Business Park development efforts, review and approve tenant equipment and processes to ensure conformance to Kodak standards, as well as applicable governmental codes and standards.

3. Manage the Kodak Fire Department (KFD) team, overseeing staff meetings, regularly interacting through 1:1 meetings, and conducting performance reviews.

4. Develop and administer budgets for the KFD and the risk engineering functions.

5. Maintain productive relationships with municipal emergency response departments, fire marshals and code compliance inspectors. Coordinate 24/7 coverage for emergency response for Kodak Rochester facilities. Represent Kodak Rochester at Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) meetings.

6. Serve as liaison to insurance company to fulfill requests for information and implement plant protection recommendations both in Rochester and worldwide. Ensure completion of government and insurance required inspections and maintain associated records. Provide information and tours as needed for insurance representatives.

7. Manage support services for electrical hazard classification and electrical risk engineering resources for Kodak operations.

8. Support the launch and integration of cloud-based incident reporting, action tracking and concern reporting software systems. Ensure root cause and corrective actions are identified to prevent the recurrence of HSE-related incidents.

9. Participate in process safety review activities for applicable Kodak Rochester operations. Use risk assessment methods to provide engineering recommendations as needed.

10. Monitor changes to applicable codes and standards, communicating and implementing updates to Kodak operational and facility leaders.

11. Involvement with capital projects related to fire protection working with outside vendors and Kodak personnel. Current projects largely involve fire alarm and sprinkler systems upgrades or maintenance.

12. Other duties as assigned by supervision and management.


Qualifications:

• Strong knowledge of chemical manufacturing processes. Previous direct experience with Process Safety Management (PSM) regulated operations preferred.

• Engineering knowledge and experience with code compliance for building renovation and new construction to incorporate hazardous operations.

• Experience with fire department operations, including roles as team leader and/or command officer. Hazardous materials emergency response, particularly in high hazard chemical manufacturing environments, preferred.

• Working knowledge of International Fire and Building Codes and familiarity with typical State and Local applications of these codes.

• Knowledge of OSHA, PESH, DEC, EPA and other governmental agency regulations.

• Demonstrated, effective team leadership skills with small teams and emergency response operations.

• Proven ability to work effectively in a cross-functional manner and build relationships.

• Able to organize and coordinate multiple requirements/projects/processes simultaneously.

• Able to complete responsibilities in a timely, professional, and quality manner.

• Able to analyze complex problems, search out relevant information and gauge its importance when making decisions.

• Strong written and oral communication skills; able to express oneself clearly and in technical and non-technical terms.

• Effective computer skills and familiarity with typical business communication tools. Knowledge of cloud-based HSE management software systems (e.g. VelocityEHS, Benchmark Gensuite) desired.


Preferred Education and Experience:

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Mechanical, Chemical or Process Engineering, or related field.

• 5+ years of relevant experience managing risk assessment for manufacturing operations, with a focus on building and fire code compliance preferred.

• 5+ years of relevant experience leading and supervising technical and professional teams, ideally in emergency response and/or hazardous materials operations.

• Attained or actively pursuing NYS Building Safety Inspector or NYS Code Enforcement Official Certification.
