Job description

Excavator Operator

West Penn Energy Services is seeking an experienced Excavator Operator with a strong background in pipeline construction. This position plays a critical role in right-of-way operations and requires an operator who is skilled, safety-focused, and capable of performing precision work around active pipeline spreads.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with ditching, lowering pipe, padding operations, backfilling, and final reclamation, and can work efficiently under the direction of field leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate excavators to perform ditch line excavation in accordance with project specifications
  • Safely and effectively lower pipe into the ditch using proper rigging and coordination with ground crew
  • Operate a padding bucket to properly bed and protect pipe
  • Perform backfilling and grading to required standards
  • Complete final reclamation work, including contouring and site restoration
  • Work in close coordination with laborers, operators, and weld crews on the right-of-way
  • Follow direction from the Site Foreman and/or Superintendent
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance
  • Adhere to all company and job site safety policies and procedures

Requirements

Required:

  • Proven experience operating excavators in pipeline construction environments
  • Demonstrated ability to perform: Ditching, Lowering pipe, Padding operations, Backfilling, Reclamation
  • Strong understanding of safe excavation practices around utilities and active pipeline work
  • Ability to work in physically demanding outdoor conditions
  • Willingness to travel and work extended hours as needed
  • Reliable transportation

Preferred:

  • Experience working on mainline pipeline spreads
  • Familiarity with grade control and reading stakes/ROW markings
  • OSHA 10 or PEC/Safeland certification

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Work is performed outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions
  • Frequent climbing in and out of equipment
  • Sitting for extended periods while operating machinery
  • Occasional lifting, bending, and ground support as needed
