Job description

CTG is seeking an experienced Mainframe Modernization Engineer (COBOL) to support a large-scale legacy modernization initiative. This role combines deep expertise in COBOL, CICS, and DB2 with modern Java development to migrate mission-critical applications to scalable microservices architectures.
Location: Columbus, OH
Duration: 12 months
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, maintain, and migrate COBOL/CICS/DB2 online and batch applications.
  • Design and build Java 21/Spring Boot microservices.
  • Support application modernization, testing, deployment, and production support.
  • Develop containerized solutions using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Implement Kafka-based messaging solutions.
  • Optimize SQL performance and participate in Agile development activities.

Required Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of backend or full-stack development experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience with COBOL, CICS, DB2, and mainframe migration.
  • Expert knowledge of Java 17+/21 and Spring Boot.
  • Experience with microservices, Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, Git, and CI/CD.
  • Strong SQL, troubleshooting, and enterprise application architecture skills.

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience may be considered.

Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group are required.

The expected base salary for this position ranges from $45.00 to $50.00/hour. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, market factors, and where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. In addition to salary, a competitive benefit package is also offered.
