Job description

Job Title: Mainframe DB2 Replication Engineer
Duration: 6-Month Contract-to-Hire
Location: Phoenix, AZ (Hybrid 3 Days Onsite, 2 Days Remote)


Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe DB2 Replication Engineer to design, implement, and support data replication solutions across IBM z/OS and distributed environments. This role is responsible for ensuring reliable, real-time data synchronization, high availability, and data consistency for mission-critical applications.


Key Responsibilities<>Replication Design & Implementation
  • Design, install, configure, and maintain DB2 replication solutions across mainframe and distributed platforms
  • Build and manage source-to-target replication pipelines
  • Configure replication components including capture processes, apply processes, and control servers
  • Implement unidirectional and bidirectional replication setups
  • Enable real-time and near-real-time data synchronization solutions
<>Troubleshooting & Support
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data inconsistencies, replication failures, queue backlogs, and network interruptions
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
  • Provide L2/L3 support for production incidents
<>Performance Optimization
  • Tune replication processes to reduce latency and optimize resource utilization
  • Minimize impact on source systems
  • Optimize data capture efficiency, apply performance, and network usage
<>Integration & Data Architecture
  • Support integration between DB2 z/OS and DB2 LUW systems
  • Work with distributed databases, messaging systems, and ETL platforms
  • Collaborate closely with DBAs, application teams, and data engineering/BI teams

Required Qualifications
  • Strong experience with DB2 for z/OS
  • Experience with ZDIH and MIPS reduction/optimization initiatives
  • Experience with UNIX system services, including patch installation
  • Proficiency in UNIX scripting
  • Knowledge of RACF security
  • Hands-on experience with replication technologies:
    • IBM InfoSphere Data Replication (IIDR) / CDC
    • Q Replication (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of replication architecture and data flow design
  • Knowledge of Change Data Capture (CDC) concepts
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in data consistency, performance, and latency issues
  • Experience with JCL, TSO/ISPF, and SDSF
  • Familiarity with mainframe batch and online environments

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with MQ and messaging systems
  • Experience with ETL and data warehousing platforms
  • Exposure to monitoring tools and automation (REXX, Python, scripting)
  • Experience with cloud or hybrid data architectures
  • Background in large-scale data migration or modernization programs
  • Experience with real-time data streaming architectures
