Job Description:
We are seeking a Mainframe Systems Programmer/Mainframe ADABAS Administrator (DBA) to lead and support complex database upgrade, installation, configuration, testing, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement activities. The candidate will manage legacy and modern database environments, support database architecture and business needs, and provide technical guidance to application and operations teams.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Lead and/or support complex database upgrade, modification, installation, testing, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement projects.
  • Plan, install, configure, test, implement, and manage core database and system software products.
  • Manage and maintain legacy database environments including ADABAS, DB2, and IMS.
  • Monitor database health, performance, capacity, and available space.
  • Perform database reorganizations, replication, compression, partitioning, backup, and recovery activities.
  • Develop logical and physical database designs and create physical databases.
  • Provide database administration consulting and technical recommendations to application, operations, and development teams.
  • Evaluate and fine-tune existing DBMS software and provide recommendations for new database technologies.
  • Assess, plan, and migrate databases to cloud environments.
  • Transfer, validate, maintain, and support databases in cloud environments.
  • Install, configure, patch, clone, back up, recover, and troubleshoot databases.
  • Support ETL processes, develop custom ETL utilities, and troubleshoot ETL jobs.
  • Configure and support database connectivity and replication between remote database environments.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot StarQuest Stelo Data Replication for full and incremental data transfers.
 
Experience:
  • Minimum 7 years of experience as a Systems Programmer/DBA.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a lead role.
  • Minimum 4 years of database administration experience with Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and/or Microsoft SQL Server environments.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience transferring, validating, and maintaining databases in cloud environments.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience utilizing StarQuest Stelo Data Replication software.
  • Experience supporting production database environments, database upgrades, performance monitoring, backup/recovery, and troubleshooting.
 
Skillsets:
  • Strong experience with ADABAS, NATURAL, DB2, IMS, and IBM z/OS.
  • Experience with JCL, SMP/E, IMS DB/DC, CICS, ACF2, REXX, Assembler, COBOL, and IBM File Manager.
  • Experience with DELTA/IMS, CA Spool, BMC IMS & DB2 Tools, and N20/TRIM.
  • Strong database administration experience with Oracle Enterprise Edition 19c/21c, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience with Oracle APEX, Oracle Gateways, and Oracle Spatial.
  • Strong knowledge of ETL, SQLLoader, PL/SQL, cron/crontab, Unix shell scripting, and Windows batch scripting.
  • Experience with database replication, migration, backup/recovery, cloning, patching, capacity planning,
  • partitioning, compression, and performance tuning.
  • Experience troubleshooting ETL jobs and database connectivity issues.
  • Experience with StarQuest Stelo Data Replication for full and incremental data transfers.
 
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related IT/engineering field.
 
Additional Qualifications:
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex database and systems issues.
     
  • Ability to work with application development and operations teams on database architecture, design, and project planning.
  • Experience supporting both legacy mainframe database environments and modern/cloud-based database platforms.
  • Ability to lead complex database projects and provide technical recommendations to project and development teams.
